Neocon, ex-CIA chief Woolsey calls for US airstrikes against Syria
I heard him say this on Fox earlier but could not find any news item on it aside from one on the farcical right-wing fanatic Worldnetdaily. I apologize for linking to such a site.

--As violence continues to escalate between Israel and Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, the former head of the Central Intelligence Agency says the U.S. should now take military action against Syria, which, along with Iran, is believed to be backing Hezbollah.

"I think we ought to execute some airstrikes against Syria, against the instruments of power of that state, against the airport, which is the place where weapons shuttle through from Iran to Hezbollah and Hamas," James Woolsey said. "I think both Syria and Iran think that we're cowards. They saw us leave Lebanon after the '83 Marine Corps bombing. They saw us leave Mogadishu in '93."--

Then he goes onto talking about Iran being the next step:

--Asked host John Gibson, "If taking Syria down a peg or two by actually hitting them with airstrikes would be effective, why not hit something in Iran?"

"One has to take things to some degree by steps," Woolsey responded. "I think it would be a huge blow to Iran if the Israelis are able after a few more days' effort to badly damage Hezbollah and Hamas as they are doing, and if we were able to help undermine the continuation of the Assad regime – without putting troops on the ground, I wouldn't advocate that. We've got one major war in that part of the world on the ground in Iraq and that's enough for right at this moment I think."--

Why should we bomb Syria on behalf of a foreign nation? I find it very odd that he is advocating that America fight on behalf of Israel, a foreign nation. If he said Israel should bomb Syria that would still be unwise at this time but at least you could see his logic in that case.

1. You know what? I'm thinkin' it might not be such a swell idea to
attack Syria.

But hey, that's probably just my limited take on it.

And I'm not even a Halliburton share-holder.

If the neocon PNAC-type folks are FOR it, I'm AGAINST it.

2. US attacking Syria makes no sense
We saw what happened when a country that has not done anything to us is attacked in Iraq.

Perhaps Israel should attack Syria down the road, if it continues to sponsor terror, but Woolsey seems to conflate Israeli interests with American interests in this case.

4. Woolsey gives me the creeps. I can't say what it is beyond the
political level, but something's there that just puts me on edge.

Whenever he's on the news or something, I switch it to something else. Weather Channel. Home Shopping. Hee-Haw re-runs.

Anything.
