World's on fire. Barbara Bush: WHAT A GREAT DAY FOR A SAIL!

CAMDEN (July 18): Former President George H.W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush were in Camden Monday to have lunch aboard the motor yacht Floridian, anchored off of Curtis Island.

A few minutes later, three sports utility vehicles crested a hill on Bay View Street and turned into the CYC parking lot.

"What a great day for a sail," said former first lady Barbara Bush as she stepped out of an SUV, according to CYC Sailing Program Director Barbara Hills.

The Floridian,, a 228-foot luxury vessel, according to Power and Motor Yacht magazine, is owned by Wayne Huizenga, founder of Blockbuster Entertainment and owner of the Miami Dolphins. Before boarding a launch to the yacht, the Bushes paused to say hello to students who had recently finished sailing lessons.

11. Babs was sold to us
as America's Grandmother. All patrician pearls and gracious smiles. In reality, she's a mother who did a rather poor job of raising her children. Say what you will about Hillary, but Chelsea doesn't drive drunk, get arrested in bars, cuss on camera of flip the bird, or even talk with her mouth full.
Barbara Bush, like Dubya, is a PR fabrication that doesn't exist. Off script, she's mean spirited and self centered.
That's the irony of these "family values" types. It's all talk and facade.
In reality, she was an absentee Mom who raised cold, detached children who bring their arrogance into their arranged, well-funded lives of privilege.
The worst First Lady of my lifetime who spawned our worst president. That's her legacy.

14. Disgusting.
I love Camden and I love sailing. I mean real sailing, not stinking up the air and the sea with an abomination like "Floridian".

That stinkpot and that stupid former president and his idiotic wife should be banned from a lovely place like Camden.

16. take away the helo, and you have room for a pretty damn big boat!

he bought if from Greg Norman, who paid $49 Million for it, which is several million less than it cost the builder

do you realize how HUGH a 228 foot ship is?

purchased as the Aussie Rules, from Greg Norman

http://www.golfdigest.com/features/index.ssf?/features/gd200411kindred.html

Wait, mate. Take off those shoes soiled by planetary dust. Aussie Rules is a mansion on water. At 228 feet, it was 43rd on Power & Motoryacht magazine's 2004 listing of the world's longest yachts. Its initials, AR, are etched into the Italian marble floor of the cherry-paneled main entrance.

The April 2004 Robb Report magazine did an AR inventory so heavy on brand-name plugs that the piece read like a sales brochure: "Bernardaud china, Christofle silver, Waterford crystal, Frette linens and personal-care products by Jurlique."

And: overstuffed couches, ottomans, draperies, and pillows done in chenilles, silks and velvets. An Art Deco movie theater with a Linn entertainment system, one master suite, five staterooms for 10 guests, quarters for a crew of 14, private office, conference room, workout room, 1,000-gallon Jacuzzi with four swim-up bar stools and 12 televisions, among them a 61-inch NEC PlasmaSync.
So, where's the putting green?

...................

So Aussie Rules is luxury with muscle. It carries six boats and has dive gear for 30 (and a decompression chamber). There are 200 fishing rods, two kayaks and an armada of powered water toys. The yacht's range at 12 knots is 9,000 nautical miles.

26. As the header says, the world is on fire . . . .
. . .war, misery, death and despair all around. Yet "America's grandmother" sees fit to give interviews on what a great day it is to be on a yacht. I wonder how many gallons per mile that monster takes?

33. They're both 'leisure'. She's a rich ***** with rich friends
so she carries on doing what she does for leisure. Meanwhile, The Lounge and baseball carry on too. It's why it's newsworthy that's puzzling me.

37. Don't miss this little gem from the article:
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 08:16 PM by seafan
From the article:

The Bushes then began making their way down a ramp, where the Floridian's launch was waiting dockside. Hills said it was slow going for the pair because low tide placed the ramp at a steep angle.

"I turned to the staff and the students and said that we had just missed a perfect photo op ," said Hills.

So Hills ran over to the ramp and asked the man with "the wire hanging down his neck" if it was OK if the students took a picture with former President Bush. Hills said that the man told her he didn't care if she took a picture, but it was up to the former President and that she'd have to ask him directly.

"When they got down to the dock I went up to Mr. Bush and asked if it was OK and he said, 'Sure, but make it quick because I'm hungry for lunch.'" said Hills, adding that Bush offered his comment with a smile.
