We Need a Vigil Thread for Peace in the Middle East
After all the dispute between DUers over who is to blame for what in the middle east, I believe it's time for a moment wish everyone well. I never do this sort of thing but I feel it's necessary for DU to engage in something peaceful... something positive... something to keep us all here united. So I call for a vigil thread for ALL dying in the middle east. You don't have to do much... just post your support for a cease fire, and a the end of violence in the middle east.

PEACE

6. Never underestimate the power of pixels. Or of any
effort to make peace. Anywhere.

12. I can imagine a day when Israeli children and Palestinian children
do not live in fear.

I imagine a day when these children will be allowed to live their lives.

Their beautiful lives.

16. People want peace so much...
I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.

Light One Candle - By Peter, Paul, and Mary

Light one candle for the maccabee children
With thanks that their light didn't die

Light one candle for the pain they endured
When their right to exist was denied

Light one candle for the terrible sacrifice
Justice and freedom demand

But light one candle for the wisdom to know
When the peacemakers time is at hand

Dont let the light go out!
Its lasted for so many years!
Dont let the light go out!
Let it shine through our love and our tears.

Light one candle for the strength that we need
To never become our own foe

And light one candle for those who are suffering
Pain we learned so long ago

Light one candle for all we believe in
That anger not tear us apart

And light one candle to find us together
With peace as the song in our hearts

Dont let the light go out!
Its lasted for so many years!
Dont let the light go out!
Let it shine through our love and our tears.

What is the memory thats valued so highly
That we keep it alive in that flame?
Whats the commitment to those who have died
That we cry out theyve not died in vain?
We have come this far always believing
That justice would somehow prevail
This is the burden, this is the promise
This is why we will not fail!

Dont let the light go out!
Its lasted for so many years!
Dont let the light go out!
Let it shine through our love and our tears.

Dont let the light go out!
Dont let the light go out!
Dont let the light go out!
