I just shook the President's hand. |
|
That's right--Al Gore! He was in Philly for a book signing so I picked up a copy of "An Inconvenient Truth" and am now the proud owner of an autographed copy. There were over 1,000 of us there and he entered the gym to loud ovations and a chant of "Gore '08, Gore '08, ....." to which he slyly wagged his finger at the crowd before giving a few opening remarks, the essence of which was that the U.S. doesn't lack the money, knowledge, or technology to switch to renewable energy, it just lacks the "political will," which fortunately, he pointed out, is a "renewable resource" (to more loud cheers).
I was so overcome by thoughts of how things would be different today had the Supreme Court not brazenly handed the office (against the will of the people) to one of their own that I couldn't even really say anything when my turn to get my book signed arrived. I just said "Thank you--thank you very much," shook his hand, and moved on.
He knows what he's talking about and what he talks about is important (as opposed to dipshit "W").
I felt really emotional--proud of a good Democrat, sad that this good human was screwed over, and angry that he was screwed over along with the country.
I'd vote for him in a N.Y. second (again).

Well, I can't be. Not really, anyway. I'm just happy that you met him. (President) Gore is a great man.

6. Yes, Al is so much different than * |
|
it's not even funny.
Remember the naderites and Green party members and their constant drum beat that Gore and Bush were the same.
Well, that was a load of shit then, and especially a load of shit now.
I once had a meeting with Al Gore when he was Veep (I was a back bencher at a NASA EOSDIS review meeting). He was great! He understood every briefing and asked intelligent and probing questions, with follow ups that showed that he fully understood what was being told to him. No aides or others whispering in his ear.
Sigh.
I am still so sad that he was not able to take the oath of office that he legally and correctly won, and it should not have been so close.

7. the difference between what is and what should have been... |

How inspiring it is when a president is committed to a good and important cause instead of the neocon agenda.
Someday, I hope, we as a country will have a chance to feel inspired again.

8. I started NOT to read your post |

For obvious reason. I thought you were being too happy to have been shaking Bush's hand, so I read it. Now, I'm very envious, but very happy for you at the same time. Al Gore is My President...:toast:

10. Slightly taller than me, I think. |
|
I'm 5'9" but he was about 20ft away from me when speaking. When I got up to him for him to sign my book, he was sitting. I'd estimate somewhere between 5'10 and 6'1". He still seemed a little heavy, but whatever. He had a nice presence to him. I don't know why the media whores attacked him so much for trivialities.
They never mention Bush's fake "cowboyisms" (if you're trying to change your whole persona, who's not "comfortable in their skin."
Gore is obviously presidential material and he should have been allowed to take his rightful office.
