70% of the people cannot be ignored
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 09:25 PM by Ugnmoose
The will of the people is for passage of the Stem Cell bill. This is truly a Democratic wedge issue and we all need to play it with all the passion and emotion that we can muster. Ask your family, friends and neighbors how they feel about finding cures for Cancer, Diabetes, Alzheimers and other dread diseases. Then tell them if they want this to happen they need to vote Democratic in November. It is the only way we can make sure that the will of the people will be served. This is a hot button issue and the Rovian veto tactic will explode in his face if we play it right. Let's get bumper stickers and signs that say Vote Life - Vote Stem Cell Research - Vote Democratic.

4. Then was then and now is now
The mood of the electorate is vastly different now and you have a very unpopular President and less popular Congress.

2. When 70 percent of the people take to the streets
Then they can not be ignored.

As long as they sit on their ass at home watching TV or surfing the Net, they will continue to be ignored.

6. Missing the point
You are right that up to now we have been ignored, largely because the Repukes control the Congress. My point here is if you are truly passionate about passage of Stem Cell Research you must vote Democratic in November. We need to make this a wedge issue just like the Right Wing crazies use abortion. Except there are alot more people who support Stem Cell Research than are in favor of banning abortion.

7. So, when a state has a refrendum on a topic like, for example,
banning gay marriage, you support them when they get 70% or more support?

If 70% of Americans want school prayer, you'll be there supportng them?

What is magical about 70%?

8. Here is what is magical
70% of Americans want this legislation passed. The bill has passed both Houses of Congress and is about to be vetoed (the first of his Residency) by Bush to appease a narrow but very influential political base. The is a flagrant attack on the fundamental premise of a Democracy where the will of the majority is supposed to rule. Bushco and his minions are giving us the finger and flaunting it in our face. They are begging for us to beat them over the head with this issue come November. The question is - will we? We can if people can marshall their passion and vote.

11. The way I understand it,
chimpy is going to have his cake and eat it too. He will use veto power on the bill that should be passed, but allow the watered down bills. He will then be able to puff his chest out and boast that he's all for stem cell research. The truth has NEVER gotten in his way before.
