Southern Mass/ RI/ CT - Anyone else in the path of this storm?
They are talking hail flying around at 60 miles an hour, severe storms, and possible flash flooding in some areas.

Anyone else in the path?

I can't ever remember seeing hail in this area before. As for the wind, I can remember hurricanes that came through at 70 mph but no flying objects like hail in it.

I think it is the hail that frightens me most.

Anybody else out there where this is or have it pass already?

Mother Nature is very angry at us ... 96 degrees with humidity off the charts meeting a cold front. Guess what they say about New England weather is true ... don't like it ... wait a minute.

7. It's been coming all all day
It's just leaving CT and entering RI, but I can feel the change in the air and hear the thunder already. They said that the wind was traveling horizontally and that the rain and hail would also be that way ... horizontal.

News is now reporting that there is a tanker on fire in the Port of Providence. It is just ahead of the storm, but they think that lighting (cloud to ground they are calling it) might be the cause. Wind gusts at the station in RI are being clocked at 54 mph.

34. Oh dear, RI...
I'm in northern California so it's pretty dry and H-O-T here. VERY rarely rains in the summer here but I'm just worried about your guys in that region. Alot of loved ones and family members.

10. Need a new roof - yes ... insurance - no
I filed a claim last year and they canceled me. Insurance in Mass is a rough rackett. Can't get coverage now because of the claim. Sucks, doesn't it?

12. Insurance companies are the work of Satan.
You pay premiums for years, but God forbid you should actually make a claim.

5. Hi, Sydnie. Is that going on now? I had no idea!
I heard about a tropical disturbance off of NC, lots of heat in the northeast, but haven't heard a thing about what you're talking about!
OT, but our 20% chance of rain here today turned into lots of lightening and about 2-3 inches of rain. No hail or major winds though.

13. We have had three days of oppresive heat here
The kind that makes you sweat really hard just sitting there. Walking across the room makes you a complete sweat ball.

A break in the temp will be welcomed but not the type of storm they are talking about. Never really experienced much hail in my life. I will admit, it scares the crap out of me.

Funny how I am not afraid of a hurricane here (been through three in this house) but hail turns me into a wimpering baby.

Glad to hear you didn't have this kind of storm today.

Thanks for checking in on me tonight too.

14. RE: hail, if you have a garage, use it! Hail can be damaging
to roofs and vehicles, but you'll be okay if you're inside. A LOT more okay than if it were a hurricane. :) :hi:

33. Nope. Just watch and weep. We ACTUALLY had a hailstorm here
in Los Angeles in May of 1994, IIRC. My tomato plants never recovered.

Only time I have even heard of hail in the "southland".

upriver from us got clobbered. Again.

We got some hail and about five minute of high wind, half an hour of rain, but no big deal.

We were lucky. I understand the people where it really hit got hammered hard.

17. Two different storms. The one coming through now is a cool front.
The five day wind predictions are about the tropical storm that will be well of the coast.
You do not have to shoot yourself.

18. Oil Tanker on fire in Port of Providence
BIG fire, toxic smoke covering the highway (195/95 area), trees down all over the city. They think the tanker fire started from lightening strike.

explosions still happening at the tanker location. Areas of the docks (small shacks) also on fire, being spread by the winds.

24. Long Island right now.
Just passing. I'm very southern coast of Nassau County... not as bad as just two towns north of us... some serious lightening and yes, definetely some hail. (I just came out of the hallway, lol.. I'm brave from a distance).

Winds are about 45 mph and rain is heavy, but not looking like we are taking the brunt of this. Red cells all over NOAA site... take notice of Connecticut and Massachusetts.. WHOAAAA

25. Rain starting here right now
I am just north of New Bedford. We get all the severe weather, hurricanes, etc.
How bad was the hail? I don't have a lot of experience with hail ... not sure if I am even brave from a distance. :)

28. Braving from a distance doesn't give me a shot at what I call
"pricing the hail"... dime size, nickel size, etc..lol..

Lightening is what was irratic.. you sit and watch, and count between the light and thunder, but the thunder doesn't come right after, just another blast of white light....eeeeks. Then a big boom or two..hehe... it's fun for sick people like me, and chicken sh** too... hiding, sitting on a pillow in my hall without windows. Pathetic to some, I know.

37. Current radar show first wave has passed my area and headed
for the Cape. Second wave in CT right now.

Tanker still on fire but they have powered it further out into the bay to get it away from the storage tanks on the docks. They were offloading gasoline when the lightening struck that started the fire. No injuries reported at this point, thank goodness.
