I mean seriously, WTF??? At this point it almost HAS to be deliberate.

I haven't watched the tube much, but is this a big deal in the news? It should be, it's unbelievable.

1. I think
they are hoping a bunch of them get killed, then they spin it on Iran or Syria and the NeoCons get their next war.

4. I know they could have gotten those people out by now. This is
very suspicious. If anything happens to those folks, the neocon Bushbots will be to blame.

2. Complete incompetence and a total lack of leadership.
In other words, just the things that are the hallmark of the GOP Crime Syndicate.

First inkling of a crisis or emergency, this administration's all over it.

Johnny-on-the-spot, they are.

5. Just remember to follow the money during this evac, OK?
You see Bush & Co. already tried in vain to extort it from Americans needing rescue with the "promisory note for unknown amounts" agreeing to pay for being rescued.

6. No, no. It's just like Katrina. It's just the usual stupidity.
Those people aren't smart enough to make a "deliberate decision" that quickly.

10. Bush still hasn't reviewed the compilation CD of current events yet
it has only been four or five days now.

It takes much longer than that to make BushCo aware that perhaps something needs to be done. Remember there is no money to be made in it for BushCo.

12. tourists are the ones wanting out
I have been in contact with several of my friends and family there. Most American residents have gone up to stay with friends in the mountains. I think its mostly tourists that are clamoring to get out. I don't personally know anyone who's leaving.

From an email:
P*** and D***, and C*** and I, were on the
balcony this afternoon, discussing our options. (R*** and S**** are still
here too, but not with us) Yes, I had a martini nearby. We decided that we
were best off staying in Beirut, rather than heading up to the mountains.
Whatever support we have is here, and we feel safest in our neighborhood.
This is home, after all. Then we discussed evacuation, and decided that if the
American embassy organizes an evacuation, we may go. If things get better
quickly, we might regret having left unnecessarily, but then we can just come
back

We have seen this for years, same song, second verse.

13. The Canadians are griping, too
Matthew Fisher in Haifa, Israel; Juliet O’Neill in Ottawa; Mike Blanchfield in Paris, CanWest News Service
Published: Tuesday, July 18, 2006
Deadly rockets continued to batter the Middle East on Tuesday as the exodus of tens of thousands of people with western passports began from Beirut’s heavily damaged harbour.

After several days of frustration and allegations that the Canadian evacuation plan was too slowly organized, about 2,000 Canadians are expected to escape the violence in Lebanon on Wednesday in the first wave of a government-organized mass evacuation.

The Canadian Embassy in Beirut began Tuesday notifying some of the 25,000 Canadians registered in Lebanon to turn up near the port of Beirut in the early hours Wednesday to begin their journeys home.

Israel offered assurances of safe passage and Turkey, where most of the first wave of evacuees is headed, pledged to facilitate the easy entry and passage of the Canadians, many of whom were caught during their summer holidays in conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

And Canadians have been KILLED over there:

Canadian Foreign Minister Peter MacKay said Ottawa is doing "everything possible" to evacuate an estimated 40,000 Canadians in Lebanon. Eight Canadians were reported killed and six more critically wounded Sunday in Lebanon, he said.

And there are STILL six thousand French waiting to leave... http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/latest/200607191445/2e8650cb

France says it has transported 800 of its citizens by boat to Larnaca in Cyprus and will return to collect some of the 6,000 other French nationals.

It looks like more than a few countries are having challenges. It's what happens when you have no runways, no highway routes over land, and a blockaded port to contend with.

15. In 1967
When I was evacuated from Lebanon in June of '67, it was about 3 days before we were airlifted but WE HAD AN INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT then!!!
Israel has put American, Canadian and European state departments in a terrible predicament.

17. I think the delay has to do with setting the blockade, myself
There are warships coming from hither and yon. We know what they will do; they will array themselves in such fashion as to screen the harbor from entry by 'evilboaters,' and they will also arrange a channel of safe passage to ensure the evacuation vessels can safely exit the harbor.

I think Israel bombed the airport because the rockets and Katushya missiles were coming in via air. Then after that route was blocked, they were coming overland from Syria, which is why they took out the road.

They're cutting off the supply. Which is why the pace of rockets flying over the border has slowed down a bit. The Hizzies want to make this absurd charade last.

They should listen to Jordan, to Saudi Arabia (AMAZINGLY), to Egypt...those nations want the Hizzies to cut the crap. NOW!

You got out of Lebanon fast--I waited two weeks to get out of Iran. The Shah was long gone. The airport was open.. no, the airPORTS were all open. The problem, and it was a SERIOUS one, was "safe passage."

The predecessors of Hizb'Allah, the PASARADAN in Iran, were the ones who were robbing people, slitting their throats, stealing their cash and goods. Bribes had to be paid, deals had to be made.

These things take time. I'd rather be out in one piece slowly than quickly in a pine box.
