Poll question: Are the two Israeli soldiers KIDNAPEES or PRISONERS OF WAR? |
|
Don't wanna get into a  about whether Israel or Lebanon are to blame for this humanitarian crisis/tragedy.....
However, in responding to one post, I wrote blah blah blah and the soldiers who were kidnapped, blah blah.
Since both countries were technically still at war before this all happened, someone scolded me and said the soldiers are prisoners of war....not innocent human beings who were kidnapped.
Hmmmm.
Well, what do you think?
Kidnapped from their county, or POWs???

Is there a perpetual one?
I'm not sure what people mean when they say the two sides were technically at war.

3. POWs are captured enemy combatants |
|
Hezbollah is not a recognized government and their mitlita is not part of the Lebanese national army. They can not legitimately claim to take POWs.

I'd suspect he's supporting Israel in this go-around.

8. Hezbollah is not a national government and not recognized by |
|
the UN or other nations. So while there is clearly viscous fighting with innocents dieing, its technically not at war.
Then there is the small matter of the Geneva Conventions. Israel is subject to them, Hezbollah is not. Israel seems to be maintaining a shredded fig leaf of justification for its targets, Hezbollah can not, with the exception of the 1 gunboat they hit. Hezbollah by placing munitions storage and launching sites within civilian areas is violating the Geneva Conventions.
This does not mean I support or approve of what Israel is doing, but they are seemingly staying within the rules, while Hezbollah deliberately ignores them
