G8 gave green light to continue actions, says Israeli military

The Israeli military believes it has a green light from the recent G8 summit to continue its offensive in Lebanon, which has included extensive bombardment of the country.

The Israel Defense Forces have taken heart at the G8 leaders' support of Israel, particularly in advocating the Jewish state's right to defend itself. It has also noted that G8 leaders essentially blamed Hamas and Hezbollah for the escalation.

The Jerusalem Post reported the findings on Tuesday in a report which also revealed the Israeli military believes it has destroyed 40% to 50% of Hezbollah's military capability in the past seven days.

The Post says Israel Defense Forces believe it needs, "another week or so minimum to achieve its military goals of alleviating Hezbollah's capacity to threaten Israel."

"The IDF further believes," says The Post, "it is understood, that it will be given at least that long to continue its actions, in light of the G8 nations' essential support for Israel and those nations' branding Hezbollah and Hamas as being responsible for the current escalation
