Urgent help needed! Please!
Tonight, an acquaintance of mine was arrested for DUI. We had been trying to take his keys, but he was stronger than us. His closest friend, and a good friend of mine as well, had gotten in the passenger seat w/ the door open to coax him to get out (as well as keep him from locking the doors) but the drunken idiot sped off.

My friend couldn't jump out and was stuck along for the ride. I frantically tried texting him (he was out of minutes) to find out where they were. I was afraid to jump into my own car, as although I felt sober, I didn't know where he was going.

Still, I wanted to know where he was. My friend didn't text back, and I feared the worst. But, twenty minutes later, they were back in the spot he had sped off from twenty mintutes before.

Surrounded by cop cars.

I have little sympathy for the acquaintance. I barely know him, and don't like him. But my friend was trying to stop the guy from driving drunk, and was too intoxicated to get out.

I know the guy was charged with DUI (he could put up a fight, but couldn't hold up his head.) I don't have any qualms about that.

But I don't know what happened to my friend. I don't know who to call, I don't have any phone numbers except his grandparents', and I don't want to do be the one to tell them.

So how do I find out what happened? How do I find out what jail he went to? How do I find out when he's released, if he is still there?

HELP!

1. First thing, is...
you need to calm down, and take a deep breath. At least you know your friend is still alive...and the drunk, hasn't killed anyone.

Second, give the cop shop a call, they got operators there, 24/7, and ask about your friend. I have been in a similiar situation, and the operator, told me zero, nothing, nada. I didn't find out any news, until later in the day(incident happened around 3am, found out at noon what happened).

Hopefully the cop shop in your area is a bit more accomadating, and plus, they might really WANT to talk to you, to substantiate your friends story.

I hope things work out...

2. Why would your friend be arrested?
'I don't have any phone numbers except his grandparents', and I don't want to do be the one to tell them.'

Tell them what?

8. He was very intoxicated. Public intoxication. But he was a passenger
and was trying to stop the drunken driver from driving.

3. Sober up first......
then in the morning call the nearest police station to where they were picked up. Most likely they'll still be there.

person. Nevertheless, do not go to police station drunk or if you have a warrant for your arrest.

4. Call the local police station. The watch commander. Tell them you

think your friend was arrested and you're trying to find him. They'll help you out. I don't think your friend can be charged for too much if he wasnt driving, just public intoxication. If he needs to get bailed out, you can probably find out what it'll cost. I don't think this is a super gnarly situation but then again, I do not know where exactly you are and what kind of jails you have there.

13. I called the Justice Center, District 1 and 2, and still nothing. There is
no way that the driver was not arrested. But I don't know his last name (he's an acquaintance), so I can't find him. And I guess they won't give me the info of one if I don't know the other's name. Sad thing is, I have the grandparents' phone number (they know the acquaintance pretty well)n

I don't know what I should do. I guess I'll call his grandparents in the morning and ask if he's there.

If he isn't, then what should I do? I don't think it would be right to tell them without his permission, as he is an adult. Also, if I were arrested, I wouldn't want anyone telling my grandparents. I'll call and ask for his sister. She should be able to help sort things out, and would know how to tell them better than I.

God, this is just what I needed (I think I'm the only one out of everybody who cared.)

9. Oh, this breaks my heart.
I don't have advice to offer, but I'm so sorry that you had to go through all that. Your friend tried to do something good. How awful for him to have had that trouble. I've had to deal with the same situation as your friend in my own life, with my father, in fact. I understand. Just hang in there.
