To ensure the safety of French and foreign nationals evacuating Lebanon, the following military means, previously on alert, are being put in place:
the frigate Jean de Vienne will arrive in the area on the morning of July 19.
Siroco landing platform dock ships will arrive on July 20.
The Projection and Command vessel Mistral will cast off on the evening of July 18 from Toulon; it has important health-related capabilities, as it contains an entire hospital, and amphibious capabilities adapted to securing the evacuees. The Mistral should arrive in the area at the end of the week.
The anti-aircraft frigate Jean Bart set sail from the Toulon naval base on July 18 carrying a Panther helicopter.
Three EC 725 helicopters and 2 C160 transport planes will remain in Cyprus on July 18. The other two C1650s and CASAs will return to France on that date. With the departure of the Mistral and the Jean Bart, 1,500 troops will be assisting nationals as part of Operation “Baliste.”
