DU'ers check in if you have family/friends in the Israel/Lebanon region |
|
This thread isn't meant for taking sides. Give us an update on how your family/friends are doing. And how you are doing.
My family lives in Northern Israel, my grandmothers town (Karmiel) was hit last night by rockets. From what I've heard things are in a stand still in that area, people are mostly staying in protected locations.
peace.

1. A friend's nephew is there |
|
She forwarded his email to her. He's just gotten dual citizenship in US/Israel, and is 18. He wants to go where the bombing is happening to try and comfort the people, and sing songs to the kids.
Another friend's family are there in Jerusalem. They are Palestinian Christians, and have suffered under the Israeli government, according to my friend Mary. BTW, they have never used violence, and done condone violence on either side. I think there are many like these folks there.

5. No, he just went on vacation. |
|
First I heard from him from Kenya and then Uganda. I just got another message, he saw many gorillas on his trek and is waiting to hear from his rabbi in Tzfat about how to recover any belongings that may have survived.

I have lots of family and friends there. I have heard from many; they are OK, just fed up with the careless bombing. Most have gone up to the mountains (beirut is situated between the mountains and the sea). They say they doubt they will evacuate. Many teach at American Community School or American University of beirut and feel they will start school again in Sept.
I left there when I was 17 and want to return, this has become a way of life. The tourism industry was just getting back to pre civil war conditions. I am so sick about what has happened.

10. my friend in Tel Aviv told me not to worry.... |
|
Since he's further south of where the rockets are landing, he seems more concerned with making sure that everyone who is worried about him isn't.

I have a good friend in Tel Aviv. She and her husband are English but have lived in Israel for over 20 years.
I heard from her yesterday. She is OK but isn't on the computer much because it's near a window :-(
I worry.
