How out of step is Faux News? REAL out of step...(national survey)
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 11:20 AM by warrens
SAN JOSE (July 18, 2006) -- Television news consumption has become a sharply
partisan affair, with the major networks, CNN and MSNBC serving as the major information
source for Democrats and independents and Fox News supplying information to Republicans.
Of those who rely on major networks for their news, 50% are Democrats, of those who
rely on CNN, 51% are Democrats and of those who choose MSNBC, 51% are Democrats.
But of those who choose Fox, 71% are Republicans and only 19% are Democrats.
The correlation of Fox News consumption and a resolute conservative worldview is
striking.

For example, just 29% of all Californians say the war in Iraq was worth it and 63% say it
was not worth it. But among Fox News viewers, 54% say the war in Iraq was worth it and 33%
say it was not, compared to 25% of non-Fox viewers who say the war was worth it and 69% who
say it was not worth it.

Among those who watch Fox for their news, 59% approve of the job George W. Bush is
doing as president and 29% disapprove. But among non-Fox viewers, just 25% approve of the
president’s performance and 66% disapprove.
Among Californians, 34% say they get their television news from a major network like
ABC, CBS or NBC; 16% say they get their news from CNN, 14% from Fox and 5% from
MSNBC. Another 23% say they get their television news from some other outlet or show.

The Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University polled a random
sample of 891 Californians 18 years of age and older June 26-30 in English and Spanish as part
of the California Consumer Confidence Survey. Results for all adults were weighted for region
and gender to match the 2000 U.S. Census.

1. I think we need to hold onto this one for the next time Fox claims...
To be mainstream. And the chart attached at the link is priceless. I couldn't figure out how to copy and format it...perhaps someone else can do it.

2. If you have Adobe Reader (free download)
you can save that to your drive and cut/paste the graph into a Word doc or other application.

13. FOX isn't doing its job
Only 64% of FOX viewers think Bush tells the truth?

Wow. He really is unpopular.

3. What About Those of Us
Who get 50% of our news from Countdown with Keith Olberman, 33% from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and 25% from The Colbert Report?

(I know it doesn't add up to 100% - but don't tell the freeper lurkers, I love to watch their heads explode while they try to do math.)

You know, the one that says we will eliminate deficits by cutting revenue ...

:silly:

Second theorem: record surpluses = reason for massive tax cut = record deficits/debt = reason for massive tax cut ...

9. That chart speaks volumes about the split between
The red state wackos and the sane part of the U.S.

It's like that old poll of Rush listeners, who graded themselves as very well informed, and were in fact totally ill-informed about the topics of the day, such as healthcare (they actually thought the U.S. was No. 1 in the world and Canada was dead last among developed countries) and so on.

Faux, Rush, and the rest of the thugs have a lot to answer for in the disinformation sweepstakes.

6. The real question should be...
...does Faux News propaganda change minds or just reinforce existing belief structures.

I suspect the latter.

11. I notice that many of the freepers only get their news from Fox.
If that is the case, they don't hear anything to contradict what passes for facts on Fox. Others only listen to Fox because it's the only station that "agrees" with what they believe. They aren't concerned with the truth, they just don't want to be proved wrong, regardless of the facts. (Old saying: My mind is made up, don't confuse me with the facts.)
