Jessie Lee Williams Jr.- the face of America's 'Abu Ghraib'
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 01:56 PM by Sapphire Blue

Pictured above: This picture is a depiction made of the booking room on the night of February 4, 2006, based upon witness statements, in which Jessie Lee Williams, Jr. was hog-tied, shackled (hands to feet), sack on head, blood dripping from the beating, and carried like a human suitcase -soon to be slammed/dropped on his face -two times

Jessie Lee Williams Jr., hospitalized after the brutal beating.

Community demands justice in the death of Jessie Lee Williams Jr.

More than five months have passed since the death of Jessie Lee Williams Jr., the apparent victim of a brutal beating at the hands of jailers in the Harrison County jail.

The vicious act was recorded by no fewer than five video cameras, and witnessed by other jail employees, medical personnel and inmates.

Yet a code of what amounts to official silence involving the U.S. Attorney, the local district attorney and the Sheriff of Harrison County continues to leave the people of South Mississippi in the dark about this case where justice delayed seems to spotlight the notion of justice denied.

(snip)

Having seen the powerful images of Rodney King's beating administered by Los Angeles police, and the photos of brutality at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, we wonder how the videotapes from the Harrison County Jail will appear to the world when they are shown over and over?

Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 02:01 PM by DoYouEverWonder
have we done this to that we don't even know about?

Why are we doing this? When did Americans turn back into animals.

11. Sorry I missed them the first time around
They had a report on NPR tonight about the Chicago situation. They have found enough evidence to show that the Chicago policy were brutalizing people since the early 70's.

What most people don't know is that it's not just Chicago even. This was/is going on in every major city in the country.

For my family it was Newark, NJ in the early 70's. They took to court one of the strongest cases to prove policy brutality in NJ history. I know about this stuff all too well.

13. It is RepubliCONS form of justice and that

is why they keep stealing elections,
It's the only way they can stay in power.

15. Yes, they recruited
from America's prison system for the most brutal jailkeepers they could find.

Thanks for the hugs. It is still difficult to look at pictures like this. They bring back a lot of bad memories.

14. during freedom summer, in 1964, while searching for Schwerner, Goodman...
...and Cheney, they dragged several rivers in the area of Philadephia, Miss. they discovered several other bodies of young black men, but not those of Schwerner, Goodman and Cheney, who were buried in an earthen dam. If memory serves (REad a great and heartbreaking book called 'We are not Afraid") one was identified. but the others were just filed away as unidentified men who had tangled with the Klan or Mississippi law enforcement.
I had thought those days were gone. Apparently not.
How many don't we know about, indeed.

16. Stuff like this
makes it easy to lose your faith in humanity. The last few weeks have been really bad. Even on DU, there are people who defend our aggression and brutality. I may be in the market for a comfortable cave soon.

19. The eerie echos of those days are being heard again
the locals aren't investigating, the feds are.
Will this be a repeat of those investigations, will it be another 40 years before the locals bring the criminals to justice because the feds failed to do anything?

22. I was listening to talk radio in MS one day
a national kinda a freeperish/Christian talk show, as I recall, though I don't normally listen to these shows and couldn't tell you who was hosting. I had just happened upon it looking for NPR down there. But before I could get a handle on the usual content, there was a caller from Gulfport, MS, who wanted the host to look into this case. In fact, because that was the first call I heard, I thought it was a local show. The host kind of brushed the caller off and the next caller, from Utah, went on and on about how we have to pray for the president. :eyes: So I switched the station.

Yet even though I was living in the Gulfport/Biloxi area at the time this heinous act happened, that talk show was the first I'd heard of the incident.
