You want to know why they need to block Alito?
Take a look at today's decision on Oregon's assisted suicide bill. Think about how it would have been with Alito instead of O'Connor and then, while keeping in mind that Bush has another 3 years, think a little further down the road to the next Supreme Court Justice retirement.

People tend to underestimate the importance of the Supreme Court and their effect on our lives.

1. And if anyone was hoping Roberts wouldn't be so
over the top conservative neocon, hope you didn't get your hopes up too far. He voted with Scalia and Thomas dissenting this decision. Roberts IS an activist justice.

2. Oh yeah.
I made a point of looking.

It makes me angry that OUR democratic senators and representatives let him through. All 7 participants need to pick up democratic opposition in the primaries.

6. Yup, I've been waiting for this case for a bit
just to see how Roberts would rule.

3. Exactly, I heard rumors about possiblely up to 4 of the justices retiring
If * is going to in office for a couple more years, when it comes to the Supreme Court we progressives are screwed, because you know the only kind justices * will appoint will be nothing more than ideological clones of Scalia & Thomas. And I don't want to live in a country where the highest court is packed with those types of conservative assholes.

4. This is one of the most important fights we will ever have.
Throw everything into it. We can't have Alito interpreting the constitution!

7. Let's hope this is just a rumor
If it isn't, we're screwed. A packed Supreme Court would be catastrophic to this country. It didn't work for FDR, I shouldn't work for Bush Inc.
