Bush to stem cell community, "Drop dead..." |
|
Bush’s first veto: stem cells'WASHINGTON -- The White House is gearing up today for President Bush's first veto in over five years as president, as he prepares to sign a veto message overturning a bill authorizing federal funding for new lines of embryonic stem cell research.
The president will veto the bill today before making a public appearance in the East Room of the White House with several families who have "adopted'' embryos and given birth to them — so-called "snowflakes.''
"The president has made a clear, principled stand on this issue since August of 2001,'' said Dana Perino, a spokeswoman for the president, recalling the summer of 2001 when Bush made a nationally televised address from his ranch in Crawford, Tex., explaining his opposition to federal funding of new lines of embryonic stem cells.' http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/newsroom/chi-060719bush-veto,1,7089700.story?coll=chi-news-hed

3. what is the difference between harvesting stem cells |
|
for use in medicine and harvesting young men/women to be used as killing machines?
I mean forget the outcome, really, but how is the latter morally less objectionable than the former. To me it's exactly the same thing, taking potential and using it for other ends. At least the stem cells aren't sentient and don't have responsibility for others on this planet, etc. But I want someone to explain to me how these two are that different.

4. the difference seems to be Bush's culture of death, and not life... |
|
sadly, even the right-wing, nut-ball evangelicals are remiss with their myopic translation of just what dominion could be in this world
as i understand it, and i'm no cellular biologist, but many of the cells presently stored will be thrown out over time like so much trash; it would be preferable imo to utilize them in a way that would support an ascension to human understanding, and not the reverse

5. Bush to the ill and disabled - drop dead |
|
Bush chooses to discard frozen embryos in trash instead of using them productively for the living.
