Now I Know Why Bush Vetoed the Stem Cell Bill
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 02:39 PM by stepnw1f
he doesn't want research funded publicly. It's all about private profit.

3. One problem with that. Drug companies prefer treatments to cures.
Stem Cell research has the hope of curing things.

The drug companies would waste money on a "one time deal" like a cure.

4. That's probably the real reason. Drug companies don't want cures;
their profits would dwindle.

5. could be
then only "they" could afford to be cured because if the drugco's make a cure for ANYTHING it will be out of the reach of normal americans

8. Yeah, that also sounds right
whether it's the motive or one of the motives or not, that's what will happen. Just like it is now: those of us without excellent insurance or lots and lots of money don't get to have health care. Only rich Americans deserve to live.

7. Regardless of his reasons...
any advances made in the area of stem cell research, will not be done by Americans on American soil.

We're falling further and further behind the curve.

Glad I used to play in the SCA. At least I'll have the appropriate garb for the coming Middle Ages.

9. No. No. No. Just look at his policies,
in the ME, his handling of Katrina. He's vehemently pro-life. :sarcasm:

This whole thing makes me sick. He is such a hypocrite, words fail me.

10. i was just discussing this w/ a coworker
at lunch. Doesn't big Pharma contribute butt loads of $ to the repug campaigns? They couldn't do anything to jeopardize that.

13. They Will OWN Stem Cell Research
so we the people will always be beholden to Big Pharma.

12. Say it again.
"It's all about private profit."

Whenever in doubt, use this as a reminder. It's the embedded core of absolutely every policy and action undertaken by this regime. They're privateers.

15. That's what I've been saying....
I wrote him a scathing letter to that effect last night, which appears on Congress.Org.

If a cure is found privately in the U.S., it won't be released until someone can figure out a way to make a profit from it.

And as the parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes, I'm well aware of the mega bucks Big Pharm is making off of her and others.

Bush and his cronies would never put even their misguided view of "morality" over profit.

18. NPR made a good point.
They said that if the feds don't FUND it, they can't CONTROL it. Said the Pukes might have missed that point.

But then, aren't the Pukes all about obscene profits, free of government constraints?

17. I think he's thumbing his nose at Republicans that went against him.
Frist, etc. went against the great Bush's wishes. On top of that, they've gone out of their way this year to distance themselves from him before elections. Open betrayal sticks in his crawl like that.

I think this was his way of saying, "Fuck you! I've got the base standing right up here next to me and you can guarantee I'll make it harder for them to elect your ass this November."

"WHO WANTS A MASSAGE???"
