Why aren't these Israel threads being moved? |
|
We have a dedicated Israel/Palestine forum. In fact, we have dedicated forums for most controversial issues (choice, guns, etc.)
I don't understand why these Israel threads aren't being moved more quickly to the proper forum. In contrast, it seems like any gun control posting gets whisked to the Gungeon in lighting speed.

1. At times like this, when Israel is a major source of news |
|
the mods and admins try to let the discussion take place outside of the I/P forum.

I guess that makes sense, especially given the timeliness of the discussion.

16. Not only that, but it's "Israel/Lebanon/US/World" being discussed ... |
|
... not Israel/Palestine. Loosely speaking, threads are consigned to the I/P Forum when the discussion is focused primarily or solely on the "Israel v. Palestine Issue." When it's a discussion of U.S. Foreign Policy, it can remain in LBN/GD/GDP/etc. as long as the discussion doesn't deteriorate to I/P wrangling. As soon as it does, in the judgment of the moderators (particularly the I/P Forum mods who have LONG experience with such threads), it will either get moved or locked. Threads that get moved may get "grandfathered" when they then violate I/P Forum Special Rules.

2. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because it's big type front page news. |

3. I would say because this is a current issue |
|
A very grave and current issue, one that effects us all. I imagine that if Roe v Wade were repealed tommorrow, that the threads wouldn't be relegated to the Choice forum, nor if all handguns were outlawed would the multitudinous gun threads be thrown into the Gungeon:shrug:
This conflict could very well blow up into a regional catastrophe, with the US invading Syria and/or Iran, or worse case scenario, becoming WWIII. So I think it merits these threads staying in GD.
Besides, I think that the admins realize that for every thread they threw into I/P, two more would pop up:shrug:

9. It's because this is front page above-the-fold news everywhere on Earth. |
|
That's right, this attack by Israel is the top story on just about every single newspaper, news site, or news service on this, the third planet in our solar system.
I think that warrants special consideration. I, for one, am grateful. Aside from a few strident, unreasonable voices on both sides the general tone of the threads that I, myself, have read has been one of curiosity for more information on the history of this conflict, genuine sympathy for innocent victims on both sides and condemnation of the fiends continuing to perpetrate crimes.
I can't give DU a bigger thumbs-up for the way this was handled and the way most people have handled themselves. Even when someone has made an offensive comment out of ignorance the response seems to have been less jump-on-them and more educate them.

11. The IP forum was established because there was always a |
|
die-hard group who saw IP interests in EVERY bit of news, and threads about just about anything would often devolve into chaotic arguments about IP.. Confining those "discussions" to one controllable area made sense...
BUT
when there is all-out war, people from all over the world being evacuated, and one of the participants is Israel, it's no longer just a devoted bunch of advocates tossing facts around, trying to make their point..
Israel IS news...front-and-center news.. The IP devotees have emerged from their DU bunkers and are in the thick of it now..
It's hard NOT to have an opinion when we have a "blog war" this time around.. The media can no longer hide what they don't want us to see, nor can they prevent us from finding out what's happening..in real time..
How could we NOT discuss it ?

12. Did you know that the Israel/Palestine forum does not allow votes |
|
for the Greatest Page? If these threads about Israel's attacks in Lebanon (not Palestine) were moved to that forum, not only would it be inappropriate by subject, but they would be functionally invisible to most people who visit DU. This is vitally important world news. It needs to be seen.
I continue to protest the lack of ability to vote for Greatest Page in the Israel/Palestine forum.

I would imagene DU doesn't want to foster an image of being too far in one direction or another in relation to I/P conflict. Accusations of antisemitism/islamophobia would shortly follow if certain threads/headlines suddenly seemed "endorsed".
