Thank you Stem Cell Supporters
I just wanted to tank this time to thank each and everyone of, regardless of party or belief system for being supportive of this research. I also wanted to give a special shout to those that voted for Senator Kerry because of his stance on Stem Cell research.
I love you all.

As far as President Cruel's veto goes I am numb and hurt by this. I guess I am not decent or moral enough to walk according this Pastor in Chief.

I don't know what tomarrow may hold but I am seriously considering borrowing from the fundie playbook on this one. You know what the old testament says about breaking the jaw bone of an ass, and an eye for an eye and what net. It's thinks it time that I excercised a little civil disobedience on this one. See you at Church Sunday.

1. I take great pride...
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 04:41 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
that CA has stepped up to the plate and is moving forward with stem cell research in spite of screaming of the right-wing nutjobs.

What I want to know is this:

If a new cure for diabetes or paralysis or ALZ is found due to breakthroughs from stem cell research here in CA and some anti-stem cell research, right-wing nutjob decides to take the cure, can we say, "Bad, RWNJ, no stem cell cure for you!" :P

On edit: In 2004 Californians voted by 59% for Prop. 71 to fund stem cell research. I wanted to add this information on CA's stem cell program:

http://www.curesforcalifornia.com/page.php?id=123

It is important to note that Proposition 71:

- created the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to manage and fund stem cell research in California.

- formed the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee to oversee the CIRM.

- established a peer review process that makes sure that research funds are given in a way that is fair and effective.

- requires research that it funds to be conducted safely and ethically, and within strict rules that protect patient safety, rights and privacy.

- keeps the public informed of their activities and decisions through audits, open meetings, public hearings and annual reports.

- forbids funding for human reproductive cloning, and added a ban on human reproductive cloning to the California constitution.

- will help California’s economy by funding research that could significantly reduce future healthcare costs in the state, in addition to creating thousands of new jobs that will generate new state tax revenues.

3. Danny, I'm sorry that Bush cares so little about you and others
who could benefit from stem cell research. Right now, I know that there are not enough votes to override the veto, but I will say this -- the majority of AMERICANS, regardless of political stripe, support stem cell research. For those Republicans to not stand up to Bush is reprehensible, and I hope to God that their constituents give 'em hell for it, too. Sometimes these people act as if bad things only happen to Democrats.

8. It's very creepy.
And sickening. Again, I have no problem with people using science and medicine to have children, if they really want children. But I do have a problem with the subtle and not-so-subtle racism and bigotry of programs like the "Snowflake Babies" program. Yeah, if you're white and rich, you can have anything you want, including children. But if you are a person of color and/or poor, well, the hell with you.

This country is so freakin' messed up right now, it makes me weep.

10. When I saw the "snowflake babies" photo today...
I couldn't help but think that sea of "white" was so very Uber-Aryan in the Germany 1940 way. :scared:
