I propose this compromise on the stem cell research funding bill
We fund the research, but anyone who does not want life saving treatment that utilizes the stem cells is free to decline the treatment. I won't force anyone to have stem cell treatment who has a moral objection to it. They can keep on suffering if that is what they choose. I will respect their wishes. I just want them to respect my wishes to have treatments available for diabetes, Alzheimers and Parkinsons. I also ask that they respect my wishes to value a living person more than some goo in a dish.

3. You're too Kind
I would say that anyone who opposes it not be allowed to use it. Because sure as hell they'll be the first ones in line.

4. Perhaps This Might Be Better
Your suggestion is quite good, but I am still pissed at all the self-righeous assholes for whom a blob of goo sitting in some petrie dish is more important than saving the lives and minimizing the suffering of millions of people.

So, I would suggest that we fund the research, and that people be required to register for any treatment that results from stem-cell research. You would have to register by a certain date or by your 21st birthday.

It would be a one-time-only registration -- no possibility of changing your mind later on. Once you decline to register, you could not later change your mind.

And, in the case of parents, their registration would extend to their children until the children turn 21.

I wonder how many people would stand on their moral high-horses and not register, knowing that if they failed to do so, they could never receive any treatment.
