Talking with my oldest son today...
He's 12...he's up for a week's visit from across state (I see him maybe twice a year these days) and we were talking politics. We were talking about gas prices and I explained to him that other people controlled the price of oil, and the oil companies DID need to make some kind of a profit to stay in business, but I then explained to him how high of a profit the oil companies had last year. I explained the people in charge of these corporations had multiple homes, and probably had their own private jet. I said "they live completely different lives than we do. It's amazing."

His comment? "It's evil."

I couldn't argue...

He gets it. We've talked about the rigged elections too.

It's funny. His mother's more conservative than I am, by far. But he's a LOT like me. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He always was.

8. I'm glad you're able to see him and do
because it sounds like you're having a wonderful influence on him.

Of course, he's about to turn into a truculent teenager, so don't be surprised at a turnaround. Be of good cheer, though, what you see at 11 and 12 is about what you're going to get when he outgrows the terrible teens.
