Who is our Martin Luther King, Jr.? |
|
A leader unafraid of telling the truth, an eloquent speaker who inspires those who support him and gives pause to those who oppose him?
I don't mean this sarcastically, but is there such a leader today anywhere?

2. Not that I know of ~ they are Swift Boated before they |

get a chance to lead.
And one more thing, the Media in those days at least allowed him to become a national figure to the television audience.
Now, ROVE pulls the plug on Feingold, Conyers etc.

There has only been one MLK Jr. and there will only be one MLK Jr.
There are many people out there who can speak just as eloquently as MLK did, but most of them are unknown to the general population, and the corporate media will do everything in their power to keep it that way.
My point is that we can not rely on a single person come forward to save us all, we all have to follow in MLK's footsteps and be the change we wish to see. We can not rely on a single person to do it all for us, and if MLK could speak today I am sure he would say the same thing (although in much more eloquent words).

I think these days, the level of "pause" is guaged by the level of ridicule, marginalizing, ignoring, or denigrating done by the opposition. I don't think they really pause. They just swing into "distract and spin" mode. Many people just need to be able to look past the official "spin" to find inspiration.
I find it in Dennis Kucinich, myself.
Also in:
Medea Benjamin Cindy Sheehan RFK Jr.
and several others.

5. When I saw Al Gore's speech on the "constitutional crisis" on MLK day |
|
I was inspired. I had never heard such a speech before. It was brave, eloquent, and heartbreaking. text at http://www.alternet.org/rights/30905/
