Harkin: Bush Is Not Our Moral Ayatollah

I don't get it. Who gave the President the authority to draw that line? He may be the President of the United States, but he's not the moral authority for all Americans. I say Mr. President, you are not our moral ayatollah. You don't have that right and you don't have that power. Oh, you can veto legislation, you can veto it...He vetoed it because he said it was immoral...tantamount to murder. No, I'm sorry but it is hyprocisy at the extreme for the President to take that position.

2. Oh why oh why didn't Harkin win the Dem. nomination in 1992?
I don't think that there is a single thing that I don't like about him! This is absolutely perfect.

Now, that being said, I don't know ALL that much about him so I'll just sit back and wait for something that I shouldn't like. What I do know primarily, and most importantly at the moment, is this statement and that he stands with Feingold, Boxer & Kerry on censure and such things as that

6. Yep...
"Now, that being said, I don't know ALL that much about him so I'll just sit back and wait for something that I shouldn't like."

There's no need to wait. You're absolutely right in that there is very little not to like. Only one thing... I just wish he were a lot younger so we had another 40 years of him in the Senate.

7. Oh good...I was hoping to hear that...
You are very lucky to have Harkin as a senator. I'm stuck with Specter and (hopefully not for much longer) Santorum. But Grassley seems like a real *cough* winner too!

Anyway, I truly do wish that he could serve for another 40 years. Thanks for letting me know that!

12. He had a horrid gay rights record back then
He has gotten vastly better. He was my second to last choice only Brown rated lower for me (I hated Brown's signature idea of the flat tax).

19. Harkin Would Have Been a Great President
I love Sen. Tom Harkin, who is one of the all-time greats, and I completely agree about the 1992 Presidential nomination. If only...My whole family was for Harkin, for so many reasons.

I don't know how many times I have heard Harkin fighting, on the floor of the Senate on C-SPAN2, for farm programs and subsidies, for community block grants that are so hugely important for neighborhood programs you don't even realize get all their funding from these block grants, for the middle class, for women, older people, the disabled, on and on and on. Harkin is smart and principled. About 15 years ago or so, I remember reading about how Harkin, always thinking, managed to get funds for breast cancer research from out of the military budget; what a great mind and heart. Harkin has also been sharply critical of Bush and neo-con Republicans before too; this is not the first time. As a matter of fact, Harkin seems to me to be one of these great, "old-timey," Midwestern radical leftist populists who only appears middle-of-the-road because of the bland, Midwestern appearance, like Representative David Obey of Wisconsin, another great one (I am from the Midwest). I love Sen. Tom Harkin.

4. It is especially hypocritical for THIS President
to take any position on morality! Thousands have died in his name. He cares nothing for our troops or the innocent civilians killed so that he and his friends can profit monetarily. He is no Christian. He is amoral.

14. Weren't his twins invitro babies?
We don't hear much about that, but I did hear on another board that it was mentioned when he was governor that the twins were invitro babies. Does anyone know if this is true?

Usually when the fertility drugs are taken, there are more than two eggs produced. In case it takes more than one try, the additional eggs are stored. At that time, unfertilized eggs could not be stored, they had to be fertilized first and then the resulting "person" (zygote) was frozen to be implanted later if the first attempt did not work.

How many eggs were extracted from Pickles and how many are still in the freezer?

Isn't Invitro fertilization also against fundie rules? Isn't any medical science (except viagra) against fundie rules?

17. Amen, Senator Harkin
It's about time the rational "leaders" of this nation stand up to the American Taliban.

Funny, though, how Bush has no qualms about maiming Iraqi babies. As long as they're out of the fetal stage, they're fair game.

18. Hip hip horay! Finally another Democrat Senator shows some
spine on the Senate floor. Ladies and Gentlemen, don't stop now! The nice thing about the KKKarl talking points is that everyone knows what they are now and what to expect in the future, and thus we can start tripping up the Repugs in public for all to see. We saw it in Sen. Fienstein's backing AG Gonzolas into a corner a couple of days ago and we see it here. I think what we can do as citizens is to get people talking about these events from a grass-roots level since (of course) the MSM won't be covering these occurrences. These are easily verifiable incidences - He said this, she said that. No conjecture and nothing to dispute.
Great job Senator Harkin!
All you other Senators take notes and start planning your own public grillings of the Repugs. Let's punch thru the huge web of lies and expose these fascist pigs for all to see, and then let's get the word out to the general population.
