(And if this doesn't help, well, I've had a few glasses of wine. :))

Who's got the wooden legs? The table, or the woman?

I'm sorry that it probably wasn't worth all of your efforts to understand.

36. Had them in a tank with an Aruwana
you can see them here:
http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/wild/arowanas.htm

Mine was about 30" long in a 1200 gallon aquarium. I was crazy about fish back then. Addiction knows no bounds.
Man, that aquarium rocked. I had Nile Catfish, Caimans, Alligator Gar, all sorts of vicious stuff. But it found its own balance (after I pissed away several thousands of dollars on fish who couldn't hold their own).

Don't apologize for an addiction like that. Those are amazing creatures you named. No apologies needed.

44. Oh, it got worse...
I had a tank that was 30 feet long, 6 feet high, and 6 feet deep (front to back) in my house in Houston.

Set it up like a Texas stream. Bass, Crappie, Catfish, Snapping Turtles, Cottonmouth, another Gar, old tires, beer bottles, car fender ('58 Chevy, front right - just about the only body part not destroyed in a classic HotRod crash-and-burn. Man, I loved that car.), etc. Had a current that ran right-to-left.

That turtle would eat out of my hand.

I pretty much steered clear of the Water Moccasin.

49. That's just unbelievably good. It IS like a Texas stream.
I have to tell you, though, I blank out when someone brings in cottonmouths. I have a LOT of respect for those rascals.

A moccasin will freeze me in my tracks faster than anything. I'd as soon cross paths with a puma than deal with a cotton mouth.

12. It's a pacu..
I had several of them in an aquarium. Probably weighed 3 pounds, each.

Cousin of the piranha.

Let those babies loose in a North American lake and they will eat everything.

I used to feed fish, mice, and rats to mine. They would even eat small birds.

29. It's from South America
To the natives down there it's known as a 'tambaqui' (I,m guessing at the spelling), more commonly known as a pacu,as a previous post said. It can get pretty big, 40-50 pounds or more.
The reason for the teeth is for eating nuts and fruits of all things. When the Amazon basin floods it heads into forests to eat nuts, fruit, and other items that fall from trees. It may look like a a piranha on steroids but it is actually pretty harmless. Still, it is not an indigenous species to Texas and was likely put there by some nitwit.

32. Definitely a pacu.
Lookit:

PACU
Although it belongs in the piranha family, the pacu (Piaractus brachypomus) is not as agressive as its more notorious cousin. However, it has powerful dentition capable of causing serious bites. The danger does not deter the Amazonian fisherman who considers the pacu to be a tasty fish and will be able to fetch a high price at market for his catch. The commercial value of the pacu has led to its consideration as a candidate for aquaculture in the Amazon region.

Pacu possess powerful dentition capable of inflicting a serious bite. However, these fish are not aggressive and possess such teeth possibly to crush seeds that fall from forest plants.

Some asshat bought a cute 2" baby pacu because the asshat working there probably told him it'd only grow to the size of the tank. However, that's a myth and they get to be about 35" or so.
