Political strategy question regarding stem cell veto ?
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 11:04 PM by kentuck
For the Republicans, would it be better if the Bush veto is over-ridden or if the veto holds? Consider that many of the Repubs in the base would like this issue to revive abortion for one more election cycle. If the veto holds, and there are not 67 votes to over-ride, then the issue will die a slow death - because the Democrats do not really know how to make it an over-riding issue for the fall.

However, if they do over-ride Bush's veto, that will keep the issue alive for the base, who will say that this is the same as "killing babies" and the Republican base will be united for one more election cycle. So, do they get enough votes to over-ride or not? This is one time where the Republicans win if Bush loses. Which way do you predict they go?
