more evidence: "Invading/blowing up a country does not stop terrorism"

previous threads:
Ok, that's it, BLOWING UP A COUNTRY DOES NOT STOP TERRORISM

Where are the liberal representatives?

In reference to:
ANALYSIS: Hezbollah is still showing no signs of breaking
This was repeated/confirmed by Countdown with Keith Olberman tonight, they said it was actually getting worse.

This false choice of either invading a country or taking the hits from terrorists has to stop in American and world politics. The simple fact is that by invading/blowing up a country, it does not defeat terrorism, instead it only makes it stronger. I think anyone only has to look as far as Iraq and even Afghanistan to see this truth laid bare.

So, by supporting invasions to stop terrorism, we are SUPPORTING TERRORISM by giving it the avenues for growth.

1. seems logical -- Iraq is now a breeding ground for terrorism
Hizbolla came into existence in response to the LAST Israeli invasion of Lebanon -- so this should be message that blowing up a country to get rid of a leader or terrorists just doesn't work.

I don't think there are quick fixes -- macho blow up and bang -- turning humans into blood spats -- doesn't cure the disease.

Terrorism is something like a cancer -- if it is whacked at (bombed) without studying the cancer and determining the best way to remove it -- the cancer could spread.

If it is the aim of Israel to create MORE Hizbolla gorilla fighters -- then Israel is going in the right direction. Perhaps Israel's current leaders didn't have enough fear to solidify their voting base??

Logic should tell intelligent people that if they keep repeating the same maneuvers -- they'll get the same results.

Whatever the reasons -- a whole country is going to pay for this lastest Israeli experiment.

4. the barbaric response by Israel indescriminate bombing will make it worse

There is no reason for Israel to bomb out and flaten Southern Lebanon. The only thing they have accomplished is proven to everyone that Israel is a monster that needs to be contained and the US as a uncaring supporting sycophant of Israel policy.

6. This is why it's so disheartening to hear people like Clinton and Feingold
...stand up in support of Israel.

This is not an either/or, black and white situation. Terrorism doesn't happen in a vacuum. People don't just wake up one day and decide to follow the siren's call of those like bin Laden. There is some perceived injustice that compels them to make that decision.

Just like Americans were compelled to enlist after Pearl Harbor and 9-11.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to "fight" terrorism. But taken literally, that tactic is a failed policy. Historically. It feeds on itself. It's gang wars on a global scale. There's no limit to the new recruits either side can attract if both refuse to see the truth: guns and bombs don't kill the misguided ideas that cause death and destruction; understanding, compromise, and a genuine desire to do no harm do.

Take away the cause for anger, stop meddling in ways that hurt people -- stop the incessant and naked aggression -- and we will cease to be the target of fury. It would be very difficult for Hezbollah, Hamas, al Qaeda, etc to gain support if the US and Israel stopped providing otherwise sane people reasons to want to take revenge on us.

Yes, it's down to the US and Israel. Because someone has to step up and be the bigger man. Someone has to lead the way. And terrorists aren't invested in anything much other than terrorism. The US and Israel should consider the welfare of their people first.

We could be a guiding light. But right now, we and the terrorists are on the path to nowhere.

I refuse to follow.

Clinton? Feingold? Walk it without me.

"While Lieberman and the rest of the war boosters continue to claim progress in Iraq, the facts are much different. The US military reports a 40 percent increase in attacks against US and Iraqi forces from last week."
