What does Bush's massage of Merkel say about his attitude toward women?
I don't know if this has been discussed today? But there was something rather disturbing about our Leader coming up behind the woman leader of Germany and putting the shoulder pinch massage on her. Would he do that to a male leader? Does it make a difference that he did it to a woman?

Overlooking the fact that he looked like he just woke up from a short sleep on a long drunk, why would he do such a trick on the lady leader at the Summit? Did he sense that she was "uptight" and needed to be loosened up a little? Was he really concerned about her physical well-being? Or does it show that he has less regard for women leaders than men leaders? And does it further show that he has less regard for women than men, in general? Just curious if anyone else has thought of this angle?

1. What does it say about his attitude about women?
That he prefers Jeff Gannon.

22. Thanks! Wow - I didn't hear about this before
Just happened earlier this month too. Weird, huh? I don't think I've ever had the desire to touch some stranger "like a kitten", but then maybe being a world leader does something s-t-r-a-n-g-e to people?!?!

4. Well, he touches men too, inappropriately
but this particular one still seems to be a gesture of dominance, or at the very least a sign that he PERCEIVES her to be somehow below him or weaker than him. Think about it: This is something you might do to a child of your own, or more likely, a lover. Unless the tabloids were right and they ARE "lovers," I think it shows that he feels as though he is in a position such that she would be appreciative of his attention--much like one would pat a dog on the head. Just my take on it.

8. He used Maria Pope's coat as a Kleenex
She was the Producer of the David Letterman show. Bush was Governor at the time and repeatedly used her coat as a Kleenex at the commercial breaks.

Then there's George's disrespectful interaction with the Queen of England when he was a 45 year old man in which he asked her who the black sheep in her family was:

http://dir.salon.com/story/opinion/world_press/2003/11/25/bush_visit/index.html

"...Clearly ... her first impression of Bush . In 1991, Bush famously appeared wearing cowboy boots at a White House dinner given by his father for the Queen and cheerily informed her of the inscription on the heels: "God save the Queen." A frosty frown appeared on the royal brow, an eon passed, many feet shuffled all around. Convinced that understatement or sarcasm would be lost on the man standing before her, the Queen asked bluntly: "Are you the black sheep of your family?" Bush replied in the affirmative and shot back: "Who's the black sheep in your family?"...

9. It looked like an unprovoked hands-on incident that you might
expect from a drunk party boy as opposed to a respectful conversation, for example, with European leaders, which presumably must have been the point of the meeting.

I just don't see a President Gore or a President Kerry doing any such thing -- the two men Dubya cheated to win the White House.

massage attack. He is so full of himself. He is not just the ugly American, he is the ugle human.

It was extremely inappropriate.

I hope there has been some time of apology sent.

Can you imagine the stuff that is going to come up after he is out of office? I wonder what he has done to the Saudi families.

I don't get the feeling that he believes women are human beings -- and come to think of it -- that anyone outside of his "social class" is worthy of his attention.

12. I don't think it's just women; he seems cavalier about most human beings
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 11:49 PM by checks-n-balances
Two other superficial but graphic ways he shows his contempt for the dignity of others:

1. The way he gives heads of state, reporters, etc. little pet nicknames, and he knows those people can't do the same back to him (to his face, anyway). It's a belittling tactic.

2. God knows why he has this fetish about touching the heads of bald men, but that certainly comes off as a weird gesture of condescention & disrespect.

I think he just picked her out for that because if he'd tried that on a man, it would've been interpreted as aggression or a homosexual overture. He obviously didn't want to be there, so he took it out on the German chancellor. I wish he had left before that, because the man embarasses this nation beyond anything in our history, every time he appears on the international scene. The G8 has been a public relations disaster for our stature in the world, thanks to our buffoon-in-chief.

("I'm the Embarasser...")

Edit: spelling

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/04/09/bush/index1.html

<snip>

Ten years ago, at the 1988 Republican Convention, Hartford Courant associate editor David Fink struck up a conversation with George W. "When you're not talking politics," Fink asked the vice president's son, "what do you and talk about?"

"Pussy," George W. replied.

17. More important question:
what does Angela Merkel's response say?

Answer = that she doesn't give a shit that Bush is the "leader" of the "free World". I thought the photos of those two were SO funny. Bush creeps up behind her, like a disgusting cobra....wraps his filthy fingers around her neck....squeezes.... and

Merkel flings his hands away!!!! OMG...what fun. I loved it. Stupid Court Jester Bush.. He can't do anything right.

19. * is an agressor and transgressor of boundaries
He declares wars based on lies, he rubs the heads of bald men, "massages" a world leader's neck -- it just goes on and on. He has as little respect for other peoples' personal boundaries as he does for the borders of other nations.

The guy just flat-out creeps me out. Ewww.

Hekate

I've never seen him do this to male staffers.

He thinks women are helpless creatures who couldn't survive without men like him around. :puke:

26. to be fair, he touches men inappropriately too
that is, if the man has a bald head of course. His anti-women policies are more telling of his feelings for us than putting his hands on Merkel. I only say this because he has a problem keeping his hands off of people in general. I equate it to a dog marking his territory. It's pretty gross.
