Happy email from eBay. Sell something and contribute to DU! |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 01:19 AM by Elwood P Dowd
Thursday and Friday are 20-cent days. Advertise your stuff for only 20 cents per insertion. Even if you don't need the money, you could at least raise a little cash for DU or your favorite charity.
BTW, I am in no way associated with eBay. I do advertise books, CDs, and other stuff over there every time they have these specials. Even if I list 20 items, I'm still just out 4 bucks if nothing sells. Have at it!!!!

5. Nice idea :-) .... but FYI this 20 cent listing "deal" is eBay's "kiss" |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 07:42 AM by WePurrsevere
in an attempt to distract & diffuse sellers from the fact that eBay just increased the store listing & FVF rates quite a bit while overall sell through (not just the normal "summer slump") has plummeted for most I know. (Needless to say eBay's Stores board has gone wild over this.)
It is also eBay's way to get the numbers up as their stock price falls along with their quarterly which was down 14% AND from Bill Cobb's write up it's also eBay's "gentle" way of "easing" folks out of using the stores (apparently they just figured out that they're not making as much money with sellers using that format so much.)
Still... if you use eBay to sell a 20 cent listing sale is better then a poke in the eye and raising funds for DU is very cool. B-) (although I must admit that as someone with dear friends who will be adversely effected by this rate increase, I'm more tempted to tell eBay to stuff it right now.)
Oh and a heads up... eBay has ditched Andale counters & is using their own which are not always working correctly. They are also glitchancing the "search" again. Apparently they are or have added Yahoo search results in as a default if someone enters an incorrect spelling or if there's nothing on eBay and they're going to be in adding half.com.
FYI ;) - I have been selling/buying on, and occasionally protesting against, eBay for a bit over 8yrs and occasionally still do. From your wording (advertise) it sounds like you're using eBay as it now should be... hopefully to guide folks over to a website and/or B&M you have. B-)
(edited to switch paragraphs in an attempt to make more sense. :D)

6. Yes, it's a "Kiss" I could live without! |
|
I still sell on there, mostly books, and with the lovely "kiss" they're also re-introducing half.com listings to ebay users, which of course will give me even more competition than I already have, along with that sneaky raising of store fees.
I'm not saying the OP's idea isn't good, because it is, but Ebay isn't doing this to be kind to their sellers....I really wish there was some sort of alternative, but for what I sell, there really isn't.
For the casual or new seller, the OP's idea is great!

8. Have you tried Amazon.com? Many used book sellers I know sell there & |
|
do well but I'm not sure if it's for everyone. I do know that I have bought a few used books from sellers on both Amazon and eBay and been pleased. :)
When eBay launched eBay Express the thought crossed my mind that it was set up to take the place of the stores. I'm not sure why it would be better for eBay since I haven't had time to look into it too much yet.
Bill Cobb is having a "Town Hall" meeting tonight where he'll supposedly answer questions. Although I suspect it will be similar to Bush's "open" Town Hall type Q&A sessions I think I'll go and watch... if it's not screened it should be interesting to see the fireworks show, I have a few friends that have always been BIG eBay supporters and sellers, they are more po'd then I have ever seen them and they have submitted "questions".

9. Yes, I have - thanks for the Town Hall reminder! |
|
I've actually sold a few on there as well, and I've been thinking of putting most of my store items there, and closing the store - the problem is a lot of them are 1 cent books on Amazon, because there's even more competition. That's for my new books. I do pretty well with the old rare ones on ebay.
Life could be worse though - I could have to get a REAL job! :-)

10. I missed Town Hall but there's a blow by blow posted on ebay's store |
|
board: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000322238&start=0 It will do until they post the transcript next week but from what they're saying on the board I didn't miss much and what was said wasn't much that I wanted to hear... it sounds like Bill Cobb, etc has been taking lessons from BushCo as to how to have BS Q&A Town Hall meetings. :eyes:
