Only 33% of Americans think Israel has gone too far? |
|
I must be on another planet or the neocons really out number true Americans. Who makes up the over 50% who think Israel has not gone far enough or has done just about right? I hope they feel they same way when the blow-back hits.

I was one of the people supporting Israel until they became the bully on the block, beginning with Sharon's term. Up until then, all I could think of was "Israel=Holocaust" and alot of people still do. Most people aren't as politically passionate as we are and don't know about anything that isn't on the six o'clock news. They just don't know that the victims have become the victimizers.

28. I totally agree! I, too, was an unequivical supporter of Israel |
|

until Sharon pulled his Temple Mount stunt that began the Intifada and I began to pay greater attention to the whole question of Israel's actions with regard to the Palestinians. Until then I simply took the headlines as "gospel", and immediately, at the mention of Israel, thought Holocaust. I no longer do that, but many are where I was, totally oblivious as to the real facts, sadly.

3. I am not a neo-con and I do not think "Israel has gone too far" - I do |

not believe the response to an act of war - crossing a border to kill and kidnap - is limited just because prior to that act the parties had limited themselves to random short range rocket attacks responded to by equally random air plane attacks.
Any war activity (like the attack by Israel) could get disproportionate - and some would argue our killing 500,000 in Japan via the atomic bomb and later radiation deaths was a disproportionate response - although most say it saved the over a million lives that would have been lost during the invasion of Japan. But I do not see that as having happened to date.
For anyone to think Israel has to sit and take Hez/Hamas "destroy Israel as a Jewish state" activities that harm Israeli citizens within the borders of Israel is - to me - an amazing view.

So hanging blacks and those whites who in the 60's marched with them is just a continuation of the old war and is OK?

In my opinion, it should matter less whether or not one supports Isdrael's right to defend itself and even to aggressively go after hezbollah than whether Israel is once again engaging in overkill.
Blasting away at an entire country, and undermining a moderate government and pissing of the entire nation of Lebanon, fits my definition of "gone too far" and overkill. It's also IMO absolutely stupid, because that approach will NEVERR solve the underlying threats to Israel, asd has been shoiwn time and time again.

6. And that 33% is virulently anti-Semitic, by definition |

ANY condemnation of what Israel does is automatic proof of deep-seated hatred against everything Jewish. That has been the official line for decades.

My step-father, who is Jewish and who has lost several family members in the Holocaust, was discussing Middle East politics with a friend when he expressed harsh criticism against the Israeli government. A complete stranger who was listening in immediately turned to him and started berating him for his anti-Semitism. My stepdad pulled out the Star of David he wears around his neck and said, "I have every right to condemn atrocities when I see them. What is your excuse?"
Fortunately, there are many people, including many Jews, who condemn Israel for its actions. Unfortunately, they are far outnumbered by fanatics for whom every Israeli action is sanctioned by God Himself.

IF and WHEN Americans will get sick and tired of seeing and hearing about kids and women dying on a daily basis, let alone our poor bullshitted troops..
Is there NO empathy left in this country?
Where have the AMERICANS gone?
MARS is the War Planet, why can't we get all these hateful assholes to move there and kill each other?
Every "war" fought so far could have been nothing more than a Police Action initiated by the US and sponsored (for real, instead of this fake coalition) by the rest of the world, with us supplying a CRACK TEAM of Killer Squads who using our best technology ZEROED IN on the Bad Guys and KILLED THEM..
ONLY THEM.
Just remember, and tell everyone you know that NONE of this had to happen, no troops needed to go ANYWHERE, or Die, or be blown up, and we Shouldn't be hearing and watching people being Killed EVERY DAY. Imagine a day with no DEATH, that would be a Day with no BUSH or Cheney, etc.
These monsters are Killing the world, killing civilization, killing art, killing sanity.. the list goes on. I told my son that the minute Bush got in office (STOLE IT), that there would be death, even I, with the giant imagination I have as a creative person, couldn't even begin to imagine the Blood shed since 2000.. REMEMBER PEACE?
It's now a Four Letter Word.
