In today's America, uncomfortable truth is treated as treason

I wrote that this is one more thing members of the military and their loved ones back home, already worried sick, must worry about.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org) has tracked racist, extremist groups for many years, and now says that, 10 years after a scandal over neo-Nazis in the armed forces, "extremists are once again worming their way into a recruit-starved military."

The credibility of the SPLC's work has been affirmed by the many arrests, heavy fines and removal from our streets of some pretty obnoxious characters that its efforts have yielded.

As it has done with previous administrations, the SPLC alerted Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld about its findings and urged him to reiterate the military's zero-tolerance policy for racist activities.

Well, the don't-bring-me-the-news crowd seems unconcerned about extremists in the military, but very determined that nobody should talk about it.

and their endless flailing of the "treason" paintbrush every time a rational intelligent writer or blogger even opens their mouth. In my dreams, I live for a day when America wakes up and wrests those brushes fronm their cravenly shameless owners and figuratively shoves them back down their accusers' throats--- handles first.
