Bush to renominate Bolton to UN post
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush is considering renominating John Bolton as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a year after appointing him to the job over Senate objections, aides said on Thursday.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said White House officials were talking to Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, about renominating Bolton for the position.

The job requires Senate confirmation.

Bush gave Bolton a recess appointment last August -- meaning he appointed Bolton to the job when the Senate was in recess -- because many senators opposed the former State Department official for what they called an abrasive style...

1. This corrupt administration truly is out of ideas
They don't have the least clue about how to proceed, how to govern. It's been almost a year, and the entire administration still can't decide on an acceptable UN ambassador, so they return to the failure Bolton.

2. bush wants his henchman to be in the UN
these people have got to go. Bush's power has been going to his head, he is obsessed, and the most powerful cannot have that power forever.

3. Oh, Jesus..didja see this bit? If you don't approve him, the terrists win
"Should the president choose to renominate him, I cannot imagine a worse message to send to the terrorists -- and to other nations deciding whether to engage in this effort -- than to drag out a possible renomination process or even replace the person our president has entrusted to lead our nation at the United Nations," Voinovich said.

AAAAGH!!!! Fuck you, Voinovich....if we leave this asshat in the job, AMERICA LOSES!!!!!!

It's a DIPLOMATIC post, not a job for one of Tony Soprano's CAPOs, fachrissake!!!!

4. So what happens if the Senate rejects Bolton again?
Can The Decider just make another recess appointment? We discussed that here last year but I forgot what the consensus was.

10. He cannot
The year is the limit. Otherwise, Congressional approval would be moot.

5. Scary moustache man for Ambassador!
It's really a Brillo pad he tapes to his upper lip, but it's a warning to all: I'm as abrasive as my facial hair!

He needs a Delilah....

6. Is it possible that Bush is afraid the Senate will switch hands?
His recess appointment is until January. Is it normal to do it early to assure there is no gap? At least that means that Kerry, Boxer, Feingold etc get to question him again.

7. Why would he think he would have any more success getting Congress
to approve Bolton this time over last? The Bolton nomination didn't even get out of committee, if I remember correctly and the repubs are weaker now than they were then.

9. Because now he can point to a "record of success" at the UN
That's how they slide these things. Will Voinivich continue to oppose after his "worst fears" weren't realized? No. Bolton will slide through. The Dems will have to point to things that he's done AT THE UN that they don't like. It's the creation of a record.

13. John Bolton was among the group that signed a letter to Clinton
from PNAC (Project for the New American Century) concerning the removal of Saddam Hussein from power in January, 1998. Other who signed this letter include Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Zalmay Khalilzad, Richard Perle and others. So, you are right in assuming him to be a warmongering neocon.
