Pope urges Middle East ceasefire
20/07/2006 - 12:15:43 Pope Benedict XVI today called for an immediate cease-fire in the Middle East and the opening of humanitarian corridors so relief can reach the civilian population.

Pope Benedict XVI today called for an immediate cease-fire in the Middle East and the opening of humanitarian corridors so relief can reach the civilian population.

The latest Vatican appeal repeated the position that Lebanon’s integrity and sovereignty must be respected, that Israelis have the right to live in peace in their country and that the Palestinians have a right to their own state.

1. With the Bush administration sitting on his arrogant ass and doing
and saying almost nothing in the interests of peace, I happily welcome the Pope's admonishment for peace in the Middle East.

2. He urges lots of things.
Anybody else notice that nothing, anywhere, has changed?

The Pope has as much power as a 1000 watt blender that's sitting in the middle of a desert, with the closest Xcel Energy plant thousands of miles away...

3. Pope Maledict has..
.. no religious street cred. He's just a neonazi fascist dressed up in fancy robes and a funny staff and hat afaiac.

6. The Pope is such a hippy socialist!
Telling Israel she shouldn't be bombing aid convoys? Shame on him. He obviously doesn't speak for God. God wants all Arabs to die.

7. The Pope is late, where was his voice when the bombing started?
The Pope should always stand for peace and against the phosphorus burning of children as has been going on for over a week.

but I'm well aware of the breadth of world's population that is Catholic, including that of the United States.

US and World factfiles:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/4243727.stm

Where is the wholesale American and world-wide body of Christian Catholic condemnation of this death, killing and mayhem all the way around? Where is the active opposition to this latest of unholy neocon/fundie witch's brews of laudatory politics in this latest crisis?

Where are their voices?

edit to add these rough facts: Muslims 60% Christian 40%

Muslim 59.7% (Shi'a, Sunni, Druze, Isma'ilite, Alawite or Nusayri), Christian 39% (Maronite Catholic, Melkite Catholic, Armenian Orthodox, Syrian Catholic, Armenian Catholic, Roman Catholic, Protestant), other 1.3%; note: seventeen religious sects recognized
