1. When she returned the Sinai, Israel arranged to continue to buy oil
from Egypt and as I recall, she gets more from Russia

2. Slate Responds
There is a whole article answering that very question on Slate.

It seems to be mostly from Russia and former Soviet republics.

Hope that is helpful.

4. Turkey is one of Israel's oil suppliers
according to a google search.

There was hope that with Saddam out -- a new administration in Iraq would open a pipeline to Israel.

That would mean going through Syria . . . Syria also has oil -- not as much as other countries in the M.E. -- probably enough for Syria's immediate needs. I don't think Syria is a major oil exporter.

My reading of the sources seems to indicate that Israel is getting her oil from many sources -- and probably through the US fronting for her (a guess at the way some of the articles are written).

Israel doesn't want to be completely dependent on any one source for oil -- probably a wise decision. A little here, a little there and ability to stock pile --

Seems like Israel would be a country that would be researching solar energy and all forms of alternative energy -- that would help create a whole new industry -- a much better use of human mind power than . . . oh say . . war or some such activities.

10. Don't forget th US is also an oil producer
and I would imagine that as an "ally" the US would supply Israel if other sources were to dry up, now at what kind of price, who know "shipping costs" can add up you know.

5. At one time, there was a pipeline from Iraq to the Mediterranean...
Perhaps somewhere around Mosul to Haifa or southern Lebanon? But it was closed many decades ago but there is discussion of opening it back up, I read somewhere a few months ago...

7. Israel may very well be a victim of peak oil

Think about how a densely populated and tiny arid country will survive in the the post oil world. Its economy much like our own has been one based on constant population growth. As resource restraints become even more pronounced how will the Israelis transition to a workable steady state economy and demographic model that is in any way equivalent to the one now?

Economically speaking oranges and other produce can be grown elsewhere with fewer transportation costs and India is a strong competitor the production of computer software. That leaves tourism to support a nation of six and half million?

Perhaps the Iranian President was right about the eminent failure of Israel. It is entirely possible that it will shrink or collapse from the myriad of problems that face many Middle Eastern countries.
