interesting post re. anti-Israel sentiment...

"So my conclusion is that the bloggers who violently hate Israel and see it in black and white terms are not really liberals. They may even be anti-Semites, but they are not representative of the liberal community that was so active in achieving racial and ethnic equality. It is a contradiction for a true liberal to be an anti-Semite. Furthermore, I would not put it past the right wing to flood the liberal blogs with hateful criticisms of Israel to advance a perception that liberals are anti-Israel or anti-Semitic. And I see Karl Rove's fingerprints all over this."

1. He has a point.
I'm just waiting for the reich to start calling us anti-Semitic because we dare ask Israel to show restraint. How dare we criticize a god-fearing country?

2. All of us should be careful to draw distinctions between Israel's
right wing government and the Israeli people...

I find that most people in the Middle-east choose to judge me on my own merits, not on Bush's (thank God!)

But, it should work both ways. When many of us do criticize the government, it must be recognized as that (not anti-semitism).

I HATE what the Gov. is doing, not the people.

3. True. They are no more responsible for what's happening there
than we are responsible for the Pentagon is doing in Iraq.

4. That might work if the poll numbers I hear wouldn't put the number of
Israelis supporting their gouvernments present action in the 80's.
