I need HELP setting up WEBSITE for Vol Based Art Program in S.D. |
|
I run an art program in San Diego and teach art at 16 schools in California. My program is volunteer based and has been running very succesfully for twenty years now.
Every Summer, I try to come up with ways of making the program more user friendly for the 1000s of Parent-Volunteers who participate.
This Summer, I have promised to set up a website.
Anyone out there have suggestions as to where and how to start?
As you might imagine, funds are limited - so I am hoping for some cost-effective, yet professional solutions.
Thanks, kpete

2. I do NOT work for any particular school |
|
I am an independent contractor.
The parent organization pay me, so I do not have access to School District Server.
But thanks

use it as a space to post information about our program for new schools, update current schools with dates for workshops, meetings, etc., use it as a place for coordinators from different schools to communicate ideas and info to each other and post a gallery of children's artwork.
these are my initial ideas

6. Well, I work for a company that designs and creates |

Database-driven websites that allow the user to have access to a suite of web-based tools that allow you to create and update pages, photo galleries, calendars, etc., but we're not cheap. We are good, however. I wouldn't know actual costs since I'm the programmer of these sites.
It really depends on your budget. Technically, you could get a myspace account and do most of what we do, but we make it look nice and professional and can program any extra stuff you might need.

The where isn't too hard. I'd suggest either Bluehost.com or Dreamhost.com. For between $7 and $8 a month, you'll get a website with all the bells and whistles you can ask for, including a control panel that makes it easy to install blogs, forums, mailing lists, online galleries, etc., with just a few clicks. An online gallery where everyone could see the work your students create sounds like a fun, doable idea to start with. :-)
