Lieberman Race Pits Moderation vs. Hatred-Politics
quote:

"This is no exaggeration: The soul of the Democratic Party — and possibly the future of civility in American politics — is on the line in the Aug. 8 Senate primary in Connecticut."

First TNR with its preposterous anti-blog accusations. Then David Brooks with his "no possible word but Inquisition" bs about Lamont. Now this. All smells of desperation, doesn't it?

1. Yes, Republicans have been nothing but "civil" towards their Dem opponents

4. They aren't even
civil to each other! Remember what * did to McCain? And McCain's taking it and backing him shows just what a spineless creep he really is.

2. What total crap, the entire reTHUGlican party embraces division
....prejedice, alienation and hatred of anyone and any party not supporting the republican neoconservative political agenda. And, that agenda is kept secret to all but the inner republican neoconservative circle, so it becomes whatever they say it is to suit their quest for power at that moment.

3. The only hatred is on Lieberman's side--who blame "bloggers"
for his downfall. Lamont has run a respectable campaign and Lieberman has treated him and Democratic voters in his state like shit. When he said he wouldn't accept the results of an democratic primary that proved it.

5. David Sirota and Josh Marshall hit the nail on the head
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/pull-up-a-chair-this-is_b_25515.html

quote:"I think the Lieberman skeptics are really on to something when they point out that in the Kondrackes and others there is this sense that for a well-liked-in-the-beltway senior pol like Lieberman to face a primary challenge is somehow a genuine threat to the foundations of the system. You'd think he was a life peer, if not an hereditary noble, suddenly yanked out of the House of Lords and forced to run for his seat like they do in the Commons."

Josh is absolutely right - this has everything to do with Washington insiders of all sorts fearing for their own jobs, and their own relevance. Think about it. Why does Mort Kondracke need to be employed as a pundit anymore if a whole new medium exists whereby ordinary people can have a voice, and whereby ordinary people can expose his inaccuracies or his utterly vapid nature? Better yet, why is Mort Kondracke even relevant anymore if he and his pundit pals don't have a monopoly on political opinions?
