If Hezbollah is a "political party" and a nation(Israel) is fighting them, |
|
think about the parallel here.. I don't think the right-wing republicans are very well loved around the world..what IF someone decided to "go after" them? They are in OUR midst...just as Hezbollah is..
I doubt that they have rocket launchers, but a large population of them do love their guns...
Hezbollah is being portrayed as a "faction" of the country, and yet the countryt is taking a beating, even though they say the majority of Lebanon is NOT in favor of hezbollah..
People say that the government of Lebanon should have thrown them out...would othyers say the same of OUR government.. "You KNEW these people were dangerous, and you refused to "throw them out"..
just musing :)

1. How about if Bush was given the ultimatum |
|
'Turn over your neocons or we'll overthrow your gov't'
Isn't that exactly the ultimatum we gave the Taliban?? Or Iraq, 'Turn over your WMD or we'll overthrow you'. Require they do something they can't possibly do as justification for regime change??

We both wondered that if Sharon and Bush** hadn't stated that they wouldn't accept the elections of members of hamas and later the election of members of h'bollah (especially after he was warned they weren't ready to have elections, but he had to go full steam ahead anyway) if they had just STFU and let it go. Would the people who voted for them felt that they could elect whoever they wanted to and eventually would've said NO.
I think that 'others' around the world are beginning to have the feeling that if 'Murikans voted to put him back into office - that all of us deserve their contempt.

4. I Would Hope a Majority |
|
Would turn over their Republican neighbors. When there is such disruption in a country, I can't help but wonder why the majority doesn't do something?

5. I said similar to hubby yesterday when he told me Lebanon should |
|
...just throw Hezbollah out. It ain't that easy, I said. It's like if the world started attacking us for BushCo. "You should have thrown them out!" they'll say as the bombs drop.
Yeah, well, throwing them out would be nice. But if a million Americans descended on the WH determined to drag BushCo out by their heels, I think you'd wind up with a lot of dead Americans and Bush** still in power, denouncing them as traitors.

7. More comparable to the Minutemen |
|
First of all, Hezbollah is not the political party actually in power in Lebanon, so that makes the situation a bit different than Republicans in power. Second, I think what is being said is that Lebanon should have done more to address the militant attacks in southern Lebanon, not throw out a group of people who hold political office. Third, if some country that the Republicans pissed off decided to attack, yep, we'd all suffer the consequences.
Still, I think it is more comparable to our Minutemen or Army of God types. Our government did denounce abortion clinic attacks and bombings and go after the guilty, although I think they could have done more. If the Minutemen started attacking Mexico or going across the border at tunnel crossings, if we didn't do something, Mexico would. If our Minutemen engaged in militant tactics over a period of 50 years, we would have the exact same Lebanon/Israel problem and I wouldn't be surprised to find the military involved. It's one reason we've got to resolve the border issue and not set up this scenario for our kids, and why we have and should continue to denounce the Minutemen at the border.
Hezbollah and Hamas need to stop rocketing Israel and get on with the business of setting up a Palestinian state.
