Seriously, how many embryos get adopted vs. how many destroyed
and what is the viable of these embryos after being frozen for a couple of years.

I mean I think this is BULLSHIT that these idiots are fighting for so few people when so many millions more can be helped

2. It really depends on where the egg is originating
say you are selling your eggs.. the eggs then become property of the host parents.. those parents will save them until they get a baby or two and usually either trash them or donate to science. If you are using your own eggs, then the same options are open. I think most end up trashing because they are expensive to preserve and unecessary after a baby is popped. And frozen embryos are viable at anytime.. they are not frozen in a freezer..its like ted williams.. frozen in time..

3. they're not fighting for "so few people"....
....they're fighting for some cells that they claim are people. the fact that the media is not raking these filthy repukes over the coals is very frustrating. the repuke base lives in a fantasy world and the repuke party is all too happy to appease them on a "moral" issue or two to keep them coming to the polls. but the fact that the media isn't blasting the truth about this bullshit at the top of their lungs is criminal.

14. the media, in interest of "being fair", never calls Republicans on the BS
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 06:23 PM by ComerPerro
and instead of refuting the lies as they should, they report them as fact.

EDIT: You know that the media is in a sad state when a Repub on TV spouts out an obvious lie, and instead of challenging them on it, the moderator just nods and says "that's a good point"

4. Stem cells
The real thing here is the fact that the stem cells used in this research were going to be thrown away anyway. It's not like scientists were going to harvest women for living cells. The whole controversy is, as someone else said, bullshit.

5. 5 years of vialibilty after being frozen
I got that fact from my friend James last night who is also an advocate. I dont know how many get adopted. I just miss the days when people adopted living breathing kids and not stem cells.

7. Here's the bullshit: no embryos were 'adopted.'
Not even the ones that were successfully thawed and implanted. Calling the restribution of leftover frozen embryos 'adoption' is a perverse framing. Has any said they 'adopted' the ones that weren't viable when thawed, or the ones that failed to implant? Where are the court papers on these 'adoptions?'

15. Damn good point
I bet those papers read more like an egg donors would, and they are nothing like "adoption" papers.

10. Here are some figures that I found earlier today:
July 28, 2005

Eighty-four families have adopted frozen embryos in this country. For some, like those who came to the White House in May, this is at least partly a political act; for others, it's a way to have a pregnancy and a child. But embryo adoption is now a dramatic side story to the intense debate surrounding the estimated 400,000 frozen embryos in the U.S. today.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/07/28/national/main...

April 27, 2006

100th 'Snowflake' Baby Born

http://www.family.org/cforum/news/a0040287.cfm

So there are 400,000 frozen embryos in storage and only 100 have born as "snowflake babies" as of April 27, 2006. What is to happen to the other 399,900?

13. If they're not perfect white infants, it's
a crap shoot. But these same assholes want to forbid GLBTers from adopting children, although this community has a record of taking in/adopting these very children.

16. You are not even talking about a small embryo with
eyes, a tail a gills. You are talking about a clump of human cells living in a petrie dish. It's not a human. It will never be a complete human unless it's given a womb to grow in and even then it may not attach and would be flushed out with other body wastes.
