1. High time.
Will they listen??

"Both the deliberate targeting by Hezbollah of Israeli population centers with hundreds of indiscriminate weapons and Israel's disproportionate use of force and collective punishment of the Lebanese people must stop," Annan said.

The Lebanese people "have been brutally dragged back into war," he said.

He also called for the release of the abducted Israeli troops and for Israel to allow humanitarian groups to reach civilians.

7. Bolton is part of the problem, not any part of a solution.
Not even Congress voted for the son of a bitch and he's our face to the world.

14. He is very sucessful in fulfilling his mandate at the UN...
that mandate being to destroy the UN by ensuring it is impotent on any major issues. So far, it is Bolton winning, UN losing.

17. I agree, it is very frightening especially when you put this together
with who is now in charge of the WTO, etc, virtually all the global organizations that relate to the interests of the bush cabal. Very frightening.

12. Kofi Annan called for a ceasefire when this was just Israel shelling Gaza
he was ignored by the US then too.

When are people going to WakeTFup and realize that Bush has been expecting and promoting the chances of renewed war around Israel? He's not even handed and reticent or just inattentive to the Israel-Palestine conflict. His administration has known with total certainty that refusing to recognize the electoral victory of Hamas would lead to war. You'd have to be a total idiot not to see that the policy of not recognizing the Palestinian elections would start a spiral of violence, and even if Bush is a total idiot not everyone in the employ of the State Dept. is.

19. Yes, I felt his call was very even-handed, well thought out
sadly, there isn't a hope in hell anything will come of it unless the other 3 Security Council members can force the US and UK to back down. I am not holding my breath.

18. and it only took him...NINE DAYS??? and Lebanon's rubble already?
Gee Kofi, d'ya think??

of course Sherrif McMoustache will work behind the scenes to undermine everything Kofi tried to do, so it;s all a moot point anyway..

Israel will stop when:

1. they run out of jet fuel
2. they run out of targets
3. george tells them republicans are "safe" for november elections
4. they are good and ready

I NEVER watch it. But I have on occasion watched my local Faux afilliate and they spout the same shit as the big boy. That is the real danger. This is much deeper than Faux cable.

25. I news-cruise from time to time during the day
... to see what the MSM is up to on any given day. Faux News despises the UN and Kofi Anon, and spend a considerable amount of time trash-talking them. The Republicans really pushed the Oil for Food "scandal;" I put it in quotation marks because they worked it hard until it was discovered some of the perpetrators reside in Texas.

They subscribe to the notion that war is peace and ceasefires are for pussies.

26. Finally, a voice of reason in the wilderness...
of hate and violence. It will be largely ignored, I'm sure.

This Bolton quote has an ominous tone about it:

'"As we've said repeatedly, what we seek is a long-term cessation of hostilities that is part of a comprehensive change in the region and a part of a real foundation for peace," Bolton said'

I shudder to think what that is from the BushCo perspective.
