before we all get the warm fuzzies about all the Dems speaking out on a variety of republican crimes, it might be worth reading this editorial ... it makes a pretty good case that Dems still lack a cohesive message ... it's great that Gore spoke out about criminal wiretapping - i loved his speech ... and Dean, Pelosi and Reid are pursuing the "culture of corruption" themes ... but it's just not adequately organized ...
the issue that should be central to each and every point raised by prominent Democrats has to be bush's abuse of power ... it's important to make political points over the Abramoff abuses ... maybe when Rove is indicted, there will be more grist for the corruption mill ... but we need a more central message ... we need a message that resonates regardless of what today's specific scandal is ... what ties it all together is a corrupt, un-American administration ... if we're afraid to utter this central theme, our scattered attacks will not deliver the goods ... many powerful issues have been raised by Democrats since bush took office; they have not cut as they should have ... an administration that seeks far more power than the Constitution provides should be an easy mark ... too many prominent Democrats seem afraid to challenge bush's MOTIVES ... underlying all their statements seems to be an acceptance that he has the best interests of the country at heart but has sometimes chosen a bad policy ... that will just not get the job done ...
