So, what will stop Bush from running for a third term?
He can do whatever he wants as long as he deems it in the interest of our national security.

1. What will stop him from it?
A lack of terrorist attacks. :)

2. That's a trick question... we know that
it'll be a coronation not an "election". x(

15. Well, I thought "running" meant campaigning.. but maybe you meant
jogging? We all know how his majesty likes to get him his exercise.

17. Well, that's what normal people would think.
But, if Bush were to use the term in the context, it clearly would mean something different. Because a president only can't be ELECTED to a third term, you see. It doesn't mean he can't serve!

3. Martial law?
If we don't get him out of there soon, I am anticipating some sort of serious national emergency, oh, long about August or so of 2008, something that would allow him to say that continuing with the campaign process and electing a new president would be too dangerous and threatening to our national security in such a time of crisis. I don't really put much past these guys.

You haven't heard about the "signing letter" Bush has just attached to the 22nd Amendment exempting himself?

(And all the other amendments, probably.)

22. You would think so...
But what if his toadies on the Supreme court view that amendment inadmissable due to the fact that Bush wasn't elected in 2000 - he was appointed.

27. Oh my!
I haven't thought of it that way. An appointment instead of an electoral 'victory'. That would put all elections in an entirely new light. I do believe he was appointed, not elected, in 2000 but will he capitalize on that? Hard to say at this point. For all that BS as to who will be the Dem nominee, the repugs are notably silent.

6. No doubt his minions are gonna try something like this. They
have gotten away with so much that now they are cocky. I guess we will get another terrorist scare if not an actual attack and they will declare martial law saying that we can't change the government now that there is a crisis. You wait and see. They will try something like this. My gut tells me though that Americans aren't going to stand for it this time. At least I hope not.

26. That's OK
He means nothing to THIS people either.

"All authority belongs to the people." - Thomas Jefferson

"Here sir, the people govern." - Alexander Hamilton

We DO have the power to take back what is ours. Can't let this scared little mean man think he's more powerful than We the People are.

I know I'm a small fry but I still feel that I am the goverment's employer. Naive? Yes. But I still pay my taxes and the government works for me.

25. Other republicans with presidential ambitions
right wingers value the constitution, the "rule of law," and legislative/judicial action when it benefits them personally.

Too many republicans have their own personal ambitions to let bush run for a third term.

32. He'll just sign another executive order claiming
it is his duty as Commander-In-Chief to appoint himself the President because he can defend this great country better than anyone else and that's his job. End of conversation. If you object you will be labeled unpatriotic and aiding and abetting the enemy and imprisoned for life as an enemy combatant.

That kind of power is only taken- claimed with transparent justification, and allowed by the complicit.
