NAACP Chairman Julian Bond Makes Surprise Appearance on Colbert Report

Only hours after George W. Bush addressed the NAACP convention for the first time during his Presidency, the historic civil rights group's chairman, Julian Bond, taped a live interview with none other than "conservative" satirist Stephen Colbert for Comedy Central's Colbert Report, which aired Thursday night. If I was a real journalist, I would be able to tell you if this was Mr. Bond's first T.V. appearance following Bush's NAACP address, but I'm not, so I can't.

Anyway, amidst Colbert's solicitation of suggestions about who should be his new "black friend" (one of the show's long-running jokes), he inquired of Mr. Bond's impressions of Bush's speech. Mr. Bond reported that Bush was unwilling to discuss the myriad issues concerning African-Americans, and on the whole, was largely a disappointment, despite showing gratitude for the President's willingness to speak at the convention.

Garrett Morris asked bond where the myth of black intellectual inferiority came from. He said it largely stemmed from the fact the light skinned blacks are smarter than dark skinned blacks.

7. I read a post on a conservative board who said blacks

had lesser IQ's than whites so they are worthy only for menial jobs and that they should be thankful the whites brought them to America. That is the soul of the GOP.
