Family beats the hell out of poor burglar.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/pbcwest/content/local_news/epaper/2006/07/19/m1a_TIED_UP_0719.html

Just a heartwarming, human interest, family story I found in the news and wanted to share as an example of families sticking together during a crisis.

1. Aw, the poor guy, he couldn't ...
"...swipe Perez's wallet and get away without much of a fight..." Gee, that's too bad.

What would you say if he'd been found in one of the kids' rooms with a knife? Why all this sympathy for the bad guy?

3. You're being sarcastic, right?
That is something of a "heartwarming family story". A burglar came in to rob them and they foght back and stopped him.

The burglar fought, too. Not like he was begging for mercy.

Most importantly he came into THEIR home, TO ROB THEM. I'm sorry, but someone who steps outside of civilization in that fashion deserves whatever response they get. In this case, the burglar wasn't killed. He was subdued and tied up.

Tell me you are being sarcastic here, please!

13. reminds me of the guy who tried to car jack a minivan
at a LA gas station.

A minivan rented by a competitive Judo team.

http://www.dumbcrooks.com/judo-club-captures-carjacker/

<snip>

Hamilton said police soon received a 911 call from a Mobil gas station. Hamilton said Hogan had apparently pulled into the station to grab another vehicle.

Hogan tried to take a beige minivan that contained the judo club, which was in town to teach a class in Long Beach, officials said. The club had just completed a tour of Hollywood and was about to head to Los Angeles International Airport, Hamilton said.

Hogan asked a member of the coed judo club for money and then became involved in a struggle with some of the others as he tried to get the minivan, Hamilton said.

It was then, police said, that several members of the judo club used their skills to restrain Hogan.

He was probably begging for the cops to arrive to save his ass.

11. there was a recent victory
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 06:58 AM by ProdigalJunkMail
by a man who robbed a auto repair shop and was then aprehended in the parking lot by two employees with a tire iron...claimed he was no longer a threat and that they assaulted him. Won damages for injuries and of all things...emotional distress...never mind that he robbed people at knife-point.

You just never know...

sP

edit for 'emotional distress' in place of 'pain and suffering'

25. Just because someone "takes the case" doesn't mean it goes anywhere.
We hear a lot about frivolous lawsuits from the crowd that vilifies trial lawyers.

The part they don't tell us is that the vast majority of frivolous lawsuits are thrown out in the first hearing. But just filing the case gets the publicity that the anti-lawyer crowd loves.

26. Amen to that.
Just as you said, a lot of frivolous lawsuits get thrown out.

And even if somebody wins a suit, and is awarded some money, GETTING the money is another thing. The suit can be appealed and overturned.

But we never hear that part of it in the corporate anti-consumer, anti-little guy media.

their house. Yeah, I'd want to see his ass kicked, too. I can sort of understand guys breaking in and stealing stuff when you're not there (twice, places I've been living have been burgled) but someone coming up and just mugging you is a way different story. What if the victim had been shot or stabbed to get his wallet?

Muggings are a dangerous situation, a random blow, a fall, can kill. This family went to the aid of their father while he was being viciously attacked.

And if someone attacked me like that, you'd have to pull me off of him because I would beat him to a bloody pulp, and yes, I'd tie him up and beat him.

for some reason sarcasm just doesn't come across well on the net. Perhaps, because we don't get to hear it in the voice.

19. No, but I am dead to sarcasm.
Ever since the republican party was taken over by performance artists who have been parodying the real republican party with exxagerated, stereotyped displays of ignorance, xenophobia, and knuckle-dragging truculence, I can't tell the difference anymore.

It is the end of irony when reality becomes parody.

18. Nowadays, I'd probably shoot an intruder
When I lived in Vancouver, I once awoke to the sound of my back door being jimmied. I ran into the kitchen and grabbed a ten inch Henkels 5 star cooking knife. I looked through the back window and recognized the would be intruder as a local crackhead. I flung open the door, grabbed him by the neck of his shirt and put the knife, point first to his face. I offered, in hysterics, mind you, to stab him repeatedly in the face. He high and had the shakes and was as flimsy as if he was made of balsa wood. I pushed him back, he staggered down the back stairs, ran off into the night, and I never saw him again.

My neighborhood in Vancouver was hopelessly dangerous and poor--the poorest in Canada. People in the neighborhood had to cope with an incredible drug and alcohol problem (not to mention other dangers such as one of the most active serial killers in Canadian history). I used to wake up and stare out my son's bedroom window and see prostitutes giving handjobs in the alley behind the house. But whatever the case, no matter how desperate someone is, they don't have the right to make my life any worse than it already is.

During my time there, I was mugged once and I caught people trying to break in twice. I witnessed two different sets of neighbors actually trying to kill each other. I hated Vancouver and am so glad to be out of it. Nowadays, I'd shoot first and accept the consquences.

there was one a couple months back where a guy tries to rob a beauty parlor, and all the stylists pummel him with their beauty supplies.

27. One thing that
strikes me about this story is that the family is Guatemalan. There is a long history in these parts of Guatemalans getting robbed on payday. It seems that the local thugs are wise to the fact that the Guatemalans don't trust banks. They cash their paychecks and carry the cash. Another thing about the Guatemalans is that they are of very small stature. There are very few Guatemalan males that I don't tower over and I'm 5' 4". Anyway, this story of the family coming to the father's aid and tying this guy up brings a smile to my face.
