Katie Couric Won't Go To the Middle East
because it is just too dangerous - and neither would I.

All the bigtime anchors have reported from the war zones. That is true. It is also true that 70 journalists have been killed in the Middle East.

Catie is a single mother with two children. She is not going.

But I really don't see why its necessary for the Bob Schieffers of the broadcast world to go and stand in the middle of a blasted out street. They have other reporters that can do that.

1. Peter Jennings thrived on it when he was alive.
He loved being on location. Even in the Mideast. Wow, he's been gone almost a year.

3. Katie might get dusty or break a nail.
OK, that was snarky of me.

Sorry.

4. but true, she's a talentless talking head
it breaks my heart to notice this one, but even Tucker Carlson is on location.

The child excuse wears a little thin.

13. Tucker is totally dispensible
Katie has a multi-million dollar contract that probably would have to be paid off, plus insurance, should she die in the line of "duty." It would cost NBC too much. It's like a movie studio not allowing their A-List actor to do his own stunts. But Tucker? It probably takes him five years to make what Katie is paid in a month. He could be replaced with a broadcast school intern and no one would notice.

14. You can't get a good stylist or manicurist
in a hot zone like that so I understand where she is coming from. And that nice clothes she wears and the Feragamos..they would be ruined! And do you even know how makeup can run in that kind of setting? :sarcasm:

I'm sorry but I don't buy the "katie is a mother of two" bit. A lot of mothers of young children (or older ones) wouldn't think of going into journalism for that reason. Too dangerous. But Katie accepted the job. A responsible, dedicated reporter goes wherever the story is. Christiane Amanpour often looks disheveled and God know what risks she takes when she is reporting from where the action is. I have way more respect for her. Unlike Katie, she takes her role seriously. But then, she is a real journalist.

15. She has no business being a reporter-news anchor
if she can't do the job. What a wimpy ass-wipe. I quit watching the Today show because of her,and I damn sure won't be watching her on CBS either.I never could stand her giggling and acting all cutesy, but that colonoscopy she did on live television put the icing on the cake for me. :puke:

5. We should all write to her boss and insist that she go!
KKKatie should be promoted to Floor 500 where the walls are made of gold.

12. Blaming the victim
It's really not her fault, she just has no experience. It was always Matt Lauer's job to travel to exotic locales, while Katie got to oversee the cooking segment. :sarcasm:

19. All of the big names have been there.
Course the ABC News guy got hurt and will probably never work again.

And we don't want to forget the CBS reporter that survived but may lose her legs and her her two camera men that were killed.

Out there tyring despartely to find the "good news."

24. Kimberly Dozier
http://www.tampabays10.com/news/national/article.aspx?storyid=35503
-----
McManus says "she's going to make a full recovery and it's miraculous.“ He says he thinks Dozier will have ”good use of her legs.“ And he adds ”the good news is she has really no mental effects from the accident.“ As he puts it, ”She's sharp as a tack."

--------

:-)

good news, at least on this side of the pond.

18. Doesn't matter.
I won't watch her if she's in New York, I won't watch her if she's in the Middle East, I won't watch her if she's riding the freaking teacups at Disneyworld while standing on her head.
