7. Road Rage alone kills more people than terrorism
I read a statistic somewhere that said it's like 300% more killed by road rage than terrorism-- even after 9/11.

8. Thinkin a lot of rage, on roads or off,
may be due work related stress making people a tad over-reactive to daily annoyances.

18. That's for sure
And budget stress on state governments means less $$ to run clinics to help

But instead of addressing all the problems that create stress, some idiot in Congress will probably pass a bill to make knives illegal after this incident in the store.

Bandaids- all they do it slap on high visibility bandaids instead of rolling up their sleeves and working to actually make America better for ALL the people.

9. Yikes is right! No guns this time? Wonder if they survived
That would be the only silver lining, otherwise, the suffering was probably much worse than in a gun rampage.

16. The way this thread has been going I suppose it would be a bad
idea for me to admit I own a butcher knife. In fact I own three of them.

13. 8 people attacked, report says none dead
attack was less deadly than a gun attack on the same # of people. the nut used a BUTCHER KNIFE, and still didn't kill anyone.

with a gun, he'd PROBABLY have killed at least one person, if not 4 or 5. i fail to see how "the suffering was probably much worse than in a gun rampage."

are you saying the pain of a stab wound is WORSE that being DEAD?

14. oops, no I meant
if he used a knife and they slowly died on the scene, then that would be worse, IMO, then just getting shot dead.

19. I'm having a bit of a problem digesting
this. I mean, it wouldn't be so weird if the person had a gun, but how do you stab EIGHT people? I mean, didn't they see this person coming at them with a knife? I guess I'm just surprised most people didn't run away. I guess the whole thing would make more sense to me if maybe the knifer sneaked up behind them or something and they didn't see it coming. For all I know, maybe that is what happened. For some reason, I just get this picture in my head of this crazy maniac guy wielding a knife slowly walking up to someone and the people/person about to get stabbed is just standing there with a horrified look on their face. Product of watching too many cheesy horror movies, I think.

20. He was stopped by a witness with a gun
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/07/21/supermarket.stabbing.ap/index.html

A knife-wielding grocery store employee attacked eight co-workers Friday, seriously injuring five before a witness pulled a gun and stopped him, police said.

<snip>

The attacker, chasing one victim into the store's parking lot, was subdued by Chris Cope, manager of a financial services office in the same small shopping center, Higgins said.

Cope said he grabbed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from his pickup truck when he saw the attacker chasing the victim "like something in a serial killer movie."

"When he turned around and saw my pistol, he threw the knife away, put his hands up and got on the ground," Cope told The Associated Press. "He saw my gun and that was pretty much it."
