DEMOCRATS: Poll Shows Lamont Changing Tempo

A new poll shows him surging ahead of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman in the Democratic primary, but Ned Lamont still was bemused Thursday night to find he suddenly needs no introduction.

At a Windham house party where the hostess offered the barest of introductions, Lamont told supporters, "Nobody ever said, `Here's a guy who needs no introduction.'" He smiled and added, "I think we're doing OK."

A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday morning showed that Lamont has turned a 15 percentage point deficit six weeks ago into a 51-47 percent lead among likely Democratic voters.

"Clearly the momentum is on Lamont's side. He's come out of nowhere," said Douglas Schwartz, the poll's director.

1. Wins as an Indy.
The polls are pretty clear that Holy Joe wins if he runs as an independent. He'll get half the Dem votes and enough Repugs to put him in front.

2. The polls were pretty clear 3 months ago, too.
When Lieberman had a 65-13 advantage.

Things change. Joe is done.

5. Agree.
My opinion is if he runs as an Indpendent, he will get "loser" stink all over him as Dean did and he won't be able to make up for it. If Lamont wins the primary, Lamont wins.

3. I don't forsee him getting half the democratic votes after people SEE
that he has lost the primary and changes party affiliation like a sour loser.

8. As the guy from Quinnipiac said, the three way race is hypothetical
while the primary is based on reality. He said, and I agree, that those poll numbers will change once the hypothetical becomes reality. If Lamont wins the primary, which is looking very likely, he will gain the support of Democratic politicians and Democratic groups nationwide. He will gain a lot of attention from people who thought it wasn't possible. Thousands of people in CT who don't even know who Ned is right now will start paying attention. Ned will look good, and have the momentum. Joe will look bad and have Joementum.

Everything indicates Joe's numbers will go down from here. Wether it will be enough for Ned to win the general election...

4. He'll lose in November and be forced to make a hard choice
between a job as RNC Chairperson or a defense industry lobbyist where he can touch the weapons.

9. The Press Keep Saying...
...that we're picking on Lieberman & that we should stop. Sorry, but they will get no deal with me. I don't have a problem with bi-partisanship, but Lieberman isn't practicing it. I get the feeling that he likes the Republicans & hates his own party. If so, then why doesn't he just become a Republican? If the situation were reversed the Republicans would feel the same way. If a Republican was more loyal to Democrats, they would want them to leave.

10. None of the above. He's NOT running as an Independent!
He'll lose the primary and run as the candidate of the "Connecticut for Lieberman" party...a party which he created.

It's an important distinction...Lieberman's not just refusing to respect the will of Connecticut Democrats, he's created a completely new political party to thwart their will.
