Electronic voting is ripe for widespread fraud - Tribune & Georgian
Dear Editor, I am writing in response to Reeney Adams' ("Paper trail voting machines are vital to make sure future votes count") and Marion Wall's ("Electronic voting machines are safe and fair") letters to the editor of July 12 and July 14, respectively.

With respect to Wall's assumption that the current electronic voter machines are safe and fair, I have to point out that there have been a large number of incidents around the country that have provided proof that this not the case.

In 2004, machines manufactured by Diebold Election Systems disenfranchised a large number of voters in Alameda and San Diego counties in California. It was bad enough that California's secretary of state revoked certification of all touchscreen machines and recommended criminal prosecution of Diebold.

In 2003, machines in Virginia were reported to refuse to register votes for certain candidates and voters had to demand that an alternate method for voting be provided. It was later found out that these paper ballots were then entered into the machine anyway, without the voters' knowledge.

2. While I'm glad to see this...
thrilled, actually!

But, it's also maddening. When Cons have completely trashed everything they could and the Democrats have the chance of making ground...it finally bubbles up to the surface.

My biggest fear now is that the Cons will be accusing any Democrat who wins of e-fraud. And worst of all, everything from November 2004 through 2006/2008 will just be "history". The criminals will be off scot free and finding ways to do more damage. :banghead:

4. Even if they DO accuse Dems of evote fraud, that we can take advantage of
exposing flaws and getting rid of the machines. I think. I hope. Then again, look at our history.

6. My rw mother, who for the past 2 years has been telling me to
"Just get over it" regarding election fraud, finally admitted to me that she doesn't know a thing about the issue :eyes: but what she heard recently about what went on in California makes her wonder if we should trust these machines.

I've had to bite my tongue & keep telling myself, "better late than never!" I've been sending her tons of info & she is becoming absolutely appalled at what she is learning, but there is still a little tiny piece of me that is resentful as hell that she had the audacity to tell me to just get over something that she had no fucking clue about. Holy shit, these people do not deserve the government we are fighting for!
