Maybe that's why it's easier to focus on Lebanon. Terrible as Lebanon is, it's possible that the Israeli assault can be ended. Lebanon, of course, is no where near as devastated as Iraq.

I know a lot of you have little use for the NYT. Me? I wouldn't want to do without the coverage by John Burns, Edward Wong, Dexter Filkins, and others. I read it every day, and over the past months particularly, the situation has become desperately bad. Burns said last year in an interview that it was civil war, and it's not even low grade anymore. People are dying horribly every day in significant numbers. I fear it will get worse, and bloodier, in the months ahead.

There's no profit in talking about Iraq. Nothing can be done to help the people there. We set them on a course toward disaster under the guise of rescuing them and bringing democracy, and that makes it even worse.

It's cold comfort knowing that bushco has well earned the scorn he'll no doubt reap from history.

2. If you turn enough corners you'll wind up right where you started.

But don't tell Bush & Co. - they haven't figured that out yet.

3. It's a lovely vacation spot!
Especially for all of the neocons who formulated the policy and brought it to fruition.

4. I don't know if there is a way to get links to two speeches by RFK
but all you have to do is change the words Vietnam to Iraq and communism to Al Quada he says it all. The first speech "Ending the War" was given by him March 18, 1968 at Kansas State University in Manhattan,Kansas and the second one "No More Vietnams" was given April 24, 1968 at Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana. I just read them in "The Gospel According to RFK" by Norman MacAfee. He is so relevant today on many issues but those two strike me as special today.

5. Yeah, now the Iraqi government is actually discussing
partitioning the country. This is a monumental debacle of epic proportions. Who will the Dictator blame it on? Us, that's who...
