MTV News Presents: Iraq Uploaded” To Air Friday, July 21st at 8PM
In this half hour special report, MTV News’ Gideon Yago delves into this technological and social phenomenon emerging from the front lines in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Through short videos on user generated content websites, OIF troops provide an unvarnished and unrefined perspective of the violence of combat, the relationships of men in uniform and the reality of war. “MTV News Presents: Iraq Uploaded” will air on Friday, July 21st at 8PM (ET/PT).

MTV News talks with soldiers who shot video while serving in U.S. Army and U.S. Marine units in Mosul, Ramadi, Fallujah and Baghdad. In addition, the news report will feature interviews with military families and users addicted to the sites, and military and technical experts who help put into perspective these communities – military, civilian and mujaheddin - that post and participate in internet sites devoted to the Iraq War.

Viewers will be able to find out more about “MTV News Presents: Iraq Uploaded” by accessing exclusive content on MTVNews.com and MTV Overdrive, the network’s broadband channel. There they can watch a never-before-seen extended interview with the soldiers who created “Lazy Ramadi,” the viral-video phenomenon parody of the SNL skit. Extended clips of the soldiers’ footage can also be found, including an interview with one of the soldiers profiled in the show and the footage he shot and edited in Mosul and Tal Afar. Other exclusive Overdrive material includes in-depth discussions with the Marines from Camp Pendleton along their war footage clips and interviews with the bands whose music have been used in these videos.

From IAVA email:

Dear Friend,

IAVA will be on MTV tonight! Tune in to see IAVA's Executive Director Paul
Rieckhoff featured on MTV's special, "Iraq Uploaded", tonight at 8pm EST.

"Iraq Uploaded" will be hosted by Gideon Yago and will explore how the
personal videos and blogs from Troops in Iraq are informing the American
public about the war. It is a powerful and fast-paced show that IAVA
supports fully. "Iraq Uploaded" will highlight unfiltered videos and
military blogs that have been coming straight from Iraq through sites like
www.iava.org.

This program is a great opportunity to get IAVA's message in front of a
young audience. It is also another example of how IAVA continues to
represent the true voice of the 21st century veteran as a force in the
media. Tune in tonight at 8PM EST. And after the show, send your comments to info@iava.org. We want to hear what you think.

Can't catch the show tonight? It will continue to air on MTV over the next
few weeks (check your local listings). Also, you can see links to MTV's
"Iraq Uploaded" and all our recent press, updated regularly here .

Thanks for all your support.

Sincerely,
The IAVA staff
