State Letting Beaten Girl "Starve"
So, I read this story on CNN about how an eleven year old girl's stepfather allegedly beat her severely, puttin her in a coma and persistant vegetative state. Apparently, the girl has no other living relatives. Of course, if the girl dies, the man is charged w/murder, not child abuse.
The state wants to disconnect her feeding tube. Not surprisingly, the step-father fought the state's decision, taking it to the Supreme Court.

But here's my thing - where are all the people who fought so hard for Terri Schiavo? Remember how they talked about her starving to death like she'd feel intense agony? Why aren't they rushing to adopt this girl and keep her connected?

1. HOLY CHRIST....how sad...
...we must come together as a country and define both "life" and "death" and answer questions about when one can knowingly choose one over the other...and why one can not....

2. She's Just A Kid..Never Had A Chance
Of course child abuse cases upset me, but somehow I am continually bewildered by the hypocrisy of some people (in this case, the ones who fought for Terri, but are no where to be found for Heleigh)

Defining life and death is not easy, and likely why there is so much contentious debate in this country over abortion and right to die issues.

3. Should not all issues be discussed...
...that a rational mind chooses death should not be a point of intervention...

8. Absolutely
but from the story, it doesn't look like ANYONE has this child's best interest at heart.
One guy trying to beat a murder charge.
A state trying to avoid a lifetime of medical care.

If this child wasn't appointed a GAL, then a travesty has occurred here.

The end result will probably be the same, but someone else needs to make the decision in the best interest of the child.

5. Where is the guardian ad litem for this child?
The state shouldn't have the right to decide unless that child has her own advocate.

Where's the "right to life" groups now? This is a child! Where's Bill Frist? Where's Tom DeLay? Where's Sean Hannity?
